Exactly what it says you will get, a room and comfy bed. No complaints plus reasonably priced.nThe gentleman at reception was very good, professional and enthusiastic.
Great location. 10 min walk to train station.nParking is 2 mins behind the hotel, £15 for 24hrs.nPlenty of pubs and restaurants nearby.nStaff very helpful and friendly, no problem when we needed to stay an extra night.nBreakfast was great and replenished often. Used tables promptly cleaned and ready for next guest.nRooms lovely and comfortable, only 1 bath towel in the rooms, seems to be Premier inn standard, but no problem when asked for another.nHad seen other reviews ref noise from club next door, but asked for a quiet room and no problem at all..it was very quiet.
Good points: Staff are friendly and the room is well equipped for a short business stay. There is a kettle in the room and a bathtub in the bathroom. The room had a desk and a sort of chaise longue type thing in addition to the bed. It doesn't feel cramped and there's plenty of room to open a suitcase. There are plenty of sockets. The room I stayed in was quiet and bright. There was some humming from the air conditioning system or something, but it wasn't super loud and I slept well.nnBad point: this is a centrally managed chain similar to Travelodge and when things go wrong the staff might not be able to help you. I was hoping to take advantage of the early check-in option, but it turned out there wasn't a room available. This wasn't so bad, except that although the staff did try to check me in a bit early once the room had been cleaned, they weren't able to do so due to a problem with their computer system. They were friendly and even offered me a cup of tea, but the problem with this kind of chain hotel is that you're not dealing with a hotel but with a website, and if the web site doesn't function as expected you can be left in the lurch, despite the staff's best wishes. So basically it's a good place to stay but be aware that you're always taking a risk with these chain places.nnAlthough while I'm here: the way the early check-in option works is really stupid. You can check in early for a small fee, but only if there's a room available, and there's no way to find out if it's an option until you turn up. I arrived at 6am after a 12-hour flight, so I was really hopeful about checking in in the morning and relaxing in the room. If I'd been able to check availability in advance I could have made other plans instead of having to wonder around St Albans all day.
Useless manager, avoid!nI had a smelly room so asked to move rooms. I was told the hotel was fully booked so moving was impossible, then informed a refund was not possible as the on site team aren't authorized to give them. I decided to leave and hope for a refund from the 3rd party premier inn refund company. Only at the time of leaving3rd visit to the hotel desk did the manager bother to come out and talk to me and offer me a change of room, unfortunately by this point I had booked elsewhere. He then blocked the 3rd party company from issuing me a full refund! Avoid !
Super helpful staff. Great location. Well designed bedroom. But...although clean and comfortable, our bedroom 114 was not up to the usual PI standard. It was sad to see curtain hooks missing, broken toilet seat, hairdryer with an intermittent fault, mould beginning to grow in the bathroom, grout needing deep cleaning in the bathroom and a pillow that should have been thrown away some time ago. I struggled to sleep due to the noisy air-conditioning unit. It felt like a budget hotel even though the nightly price is no longer budget.
