A great day out for all the family and inexpensive too. There are some great walks along the 3 canals that converge at the Basin. The Museum is interesting and the Café is good. There are plenty of free parking spaces here too.
We had an excellent visit to the Portland Basin museum. It focuses on local history including cultural and industrial.nIt includes activities and areas for children and a cafe that does a lovely cappuccino.nnA great museum and entry is FREE!
This is free entry & over 2 floors. It's like going back in time. Café on site & we went for a short trip down the canal small feeds for this. Lift available but was not in use day we went but you can go down side of building to access the lower level.
Very well laid out museum which is also spotlessly clean. A really nice place providing a lot history about Tameside and its surrounding areas. You can learn about the textile and mining industry in their hay day and also about how people survived economically despite declining industries in the face of modernisation.nThe museum is set over 2 floors with the basement focusing on the textile and mining era.nGreat place to take your kids or visit as an adult.nThere is free parking on site and it is free to visit.
Decided to take the kids to a local museum for the afternoon as we had never been there.nIt is very enjoyable and well set out.nLots for the kids to be interactive with, especially the 1900s Street setting, with houses, shops, etc, to have a nosy around.nFree to get in and parking available. Cafe on site, but also outdoor seating if you wanted to bring your own snacks.nDidn't take long to get round. A couple of hours if you take your time.
