It's hard to review this place because it is a mixed bag. Pluses are a lovely green campus, great views, and a quiet location that is still close enough to walk to town. Rooms are up to motel 6 standards. The breakfast is good but it is served in a huge cafeteria that is overcrowded and noisy. The downside is the large size of the many many groups that come through here in herds. The Halls accommodate hundreds and hundreds of people who arrive daily in large tour buses. Groups range in age from youngsters to senior citizens. The concept of staff service is non-existent, and the people who work reception are especially clueless. Sometimes hallways are very noisy, with people screaming. The bottom line is despite the many drawbacks, I would be happy to return if I could get an ensuite bath, which is next to impossible.
PLEASE, watch video from Technology Connection about door closers. Yours are terribly set and slam shut the door uselessly. You could so easily improve the quality of life of your residents!nThe water pressure was incredibly low in the shower.nThe breakfast is a big plus for this place. You have a nice view on the hill and there are plenty of buses nearby to go to the city center.
Great accomodation campus for University of Edinburgh students. Very organised. Reception office staff are helpful. Good facilities for students including common pantry, laundry, gym, dine in halls. Single rooms are of good size with ensuite. The campus itself is good well spreadout with green spaces and benches around. Overall a good atmosphere.
Basic comfortable accommodation. Clean & tidy. Student room with 2 single beds, shower & toilet Ensuite. Kettle & various tea's & coffee. No fridge or microwave. 2km walk to Edinburgh Castle. Great breakfast options included in price.
My experience has been terrible. The first room I was given was a semi basement with a view of the garbage area and people walking right next to the small window. I was then given a room with a view of the entrance. Absolutely no privacy. I mention this because for the same price others have nice mountain views, but if you ask for a view they certainly won't give you one. It's outrageous that rooms are so different.nnBring ear plugs or you won't be able to sleep. The slamming doors sound like gunshots and people giggle in the hallways. Everything seems broken and dirty, water floods my bathroom because shower door is broken, the water pressure is terrible. There's no housekeeping, so you need to take time to go to reception to ask for more toilet paper.nn30-40 minute walk to city center. Breakfast is good but it's just in general hordes of teenagers on language courses crashing into you.nnOverall I don't recommend. There's no perks to staying here unless of course you get a mountain view, but if you don't it's basically all negatives for a ridiculously high price.
