NOT IMPRESSED!!nOn first arrival, the foyer looks very inviting and pleasant. The staff are cheerful and welcoming. We were given our room key card for the guest area, and once we passed through the door, there was a dramatic difference in the decor of the foyer; the hallway looked outdated. Once we arrived in our room, we were a bit shocked, as the furniture was old, something you might find in an elderly person’s home. Upon inspection, we were very pleased with the walk-in shower. The bathroom was bright and modern. We proceeded to unpack, and when we moved the bed runner, we noticed the marks, so we decided to check the rest of the bed. There were what looked like boot marks on the pillowcase, and we found body hair on the sheets. I went and spoke to the receptionist, and she got the manager, and he asked me to send him the photos, as he was disgusted and said he would upgrade us. So we went and checked the bed in the new room, and it was clean, so we made several trips moving our belongings only to find out that the showerhead was faulty and did not work. This bathroom was not bright, and it had seen better days. There was a shower over a bath with a shower curtain; how was this an upgrade? We couldn’t fathom it. So we moved everything back to the original room and explained the situation to the manager. He checked and confirmed it was broken. I was now tired and angry and asked for clean bedding, saying I would change the bedding myself. The manager refused, and he changed the bedding. Later, we went to the bar and were shocked, as we felt we had just walked into a canteen with several TVs showing old dramas with huge subtitles like those they have in hospital waiting rooms. It wasn’t pleasant, so we had one drink and left and never returned during our three-night stay. We decided to have breakfast, and the choices were great if you had the continental; as for the warm breakfast, the bacon was greasy and the sausage hard. The in-room entertainment TV has Netflix, but this doesn’t work and shows a fault code. Upon looking up this code, we found that the app needed updating and connecting to the internet. None of the apps worked, as the TVs were not connected to the internet. Regarding parking, I have a blue badge, and when I asked about blue badge parking, I was told there are some, but we don’t adhere to it; anyone can park in the bays, which they did. Why have designated blue badge parking if anybody can use it? There is a smoking area about 30 feet from the hotel entrance, but the hotel entrance floor is full of cigarette butts. Although an apology was given, there was nothing complimentary offered for the first night’s inconvenience. I don’t recommend this hotel. It seems like a hotel which caters to contractors working away from home. I say this from overhearing the conversations in the breakfast room. Why doesn’t the hotel have the staff check and report faults with the rooms once the guests have checked out?
Generally okay ish. Rooms arent very well sound proofed and you can hear people in the corridors.nnMain problem was that the heating was very hit or miss more miss than hit. We stayed in peak winter and were lucky to have the radiator working. Unlike most hotels, there wasn't a thermostat on the wall, you have to turn the dial on the physical radiator which was hidden by furniture. Unless youre from a country that knows to do this then youre probably just going to assume theres no heating. I am from the uk so am very familiar - i kept turning the dial and yeah no heat most of the time. I guess its linked to a central boiler so you only get heat when the main boiler is on? It makes it a bit difficult to heat your room as once the radiator is on, it heats the room up super quick so if youre out you dont want to leave it on to sleep in a sauna. But at night the Central system seems to be turned off so you cant get a little bit of heat in the room before going to bed if you get back late.nnSeems quite odd that a hotel doesnt give much control to guests of the heat of their own room.nnOn top of this, the windows are old so are quite crafty. It gets cold quick in these rooms.nnI wouldnt stay here again purely because of the heating situation. In the winter in an old building with crafty windows it is beyond bizzare to me that guests cant turn heating on at will?nnIf youve booked to come in the winter, bring an electric heater or hot water bottle with you!
This was a great place to stay, yes some of the furniture is a little dated/worn but everything else was very good, room and dining area were all clean, Staff was amazingly friendly, food was very good we had a great breakfast every morning we were there. My only complaint is not having a mini fridge in our room, would have been nice to have some place to keep drinks cold and keep some left overs chilled from our various excursions. But again great place to stay. Thank you, it made our time in Scotland very enjoyable to have a comfortable place each night to come back to.
We attended the Hogmanay party and, unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The food was mediocre — the starter was tiny and lacked flavour, the main consisted of a small chicken breast with half a roast carrot and a single stem of sprouting broccoli, and the cheeseboard was so small it should really have been called a cracker board. No grapes, and only a teaspoon of something pretending to be chutney.nnService felt disorganised from the start. Teenagers at the entrance simply pointed us toward the table, and the inexperience continued throughout the evening. Dinner service was slow and slightly chaotic.nnAs for the music, it seemed like the DJ was only there for the money and had no presence or interest in getting the party started. Songs crashed into each other rather than being mixed, and the set leaned too heavily toward the younger few in the crowd. By the time the music finally suited the predominantly older audience, it was already late.nnCompared to other venues, this was a let‑down. I’ll be heading back to places like Orocco Pier or Scotts in South Queensferry in future
Overall 3 star rating is because, one of our towels had dry blood on it and we had used it half before we realized it and the room smelled musty when we first got to the room. Everyone from the receptionist to house keeping were very nice and took good care of us. We had a dinner once on our stay as well and the food was delicious, we loved everything. And it was located in a nice cozy area.
