Peveril Of The Peak

About

Striking Victorian Irish pub situated on an island between Chepstow street and Bridgewater street.

Story

Sitting on an island of land between Chepstow Street and Bridgewater Street this tile clad Victorian pub certainly stands out from its surroundings. The building dates back to the early 19th Century but the cladding was added in 1900. The name is said to commemorate a horse-drawn stagecoach that ran between Manchester and London.
Th Peveril offers a selection of well kept real ales, lagers, bottled beers and spirits at reasonable prices in a warm and friendly pub environment. As far as pub facilities go there is a dart board, pool table and football table on offer as well as a very popular jukebox. For those who want a nice quiet drink there is also a lovely lounge room to sit back and have a chat with old friends.

For some obscure reason, the pub always looks closed. Sometimes, inexplicably, it is. Tried their front door shortly after 12 (lunchtime) on Saturday, Feb 7 - locked. In there on Feb 5 at around 17:00 hours. Quiet as a church. The only customer for 90 minutes, enjoying pints of Betty Stoggs (Cornish ale). Robbie Coltrane and Ricky Tomlinson on the wall. CRACKER is to be blamed for my interest in Manchester, and a visit to the Peveril was long overdue. Thoroughly liked the place - but can't comment on customers or atmosphere as the place was totally deserted (which I appreciated, selfishly, as I had time to ponder and relax). Featured in my novel MANCHESTER X! Wonder what other independent authors might gather round the beer pumps of the Peveril ...

Good little pub with unique look on the outside. Pool Table inside and worth stopping by for a pint if you’re in the city. Cash Only I think.
