My Business Partner and I attended Pennine Law Solicitors for some advice on a free hour basis regarding setting up our business. When our budget was discussed we advised what we had available for the cost of the solicitors fees with Mr Hoyland, he then advised that he would see us through to the end with any legal information or help we may need for the amount we had stated. Which made me and my partner feel happy with what he was offering. He advised he would take a document away make a few amendments on our behalf (change several words), and e-mail us it back after the weekend. Naively my partner and I thought it would be included in our final bill of what we had agreed with Mr Hoyland in our free hour. When the document came back, it was formatted incorrectly and the wording had barley changed. He also advised he would send it back after the weekend; My partner spent 4 x days chasing him for it back. In the meantime, we received an invoice of a ludicrous amount just to make the amendments to the document. On the invoice it states we are charged for calls / postage - lots of things that we never received. The document was changed by an office worker (not Mr Hoyland himself) and e-mailed back to us, several days later – incorrect. My partner and I then went back to discuss the invoice we had received and also the ongoing outstanding, paperwork etc. Mr Hoyland in this meeting wasn’t as pleasant and charming as the first visit when luring in 2 x people that are starting up in business. Upon meeting Mr Hoyland he came across as very nice, genuine gentleman, who was in the business of helping businesses like ours, but in fact he disappointedly turned out to be a dishonorable man who led us to believe one thing and then hit us with a large unacceptable bill. We paid Mr Hoyland, and parted company. I want to make any other small struggling businesses like ours to be aware that because these are “People of Law” it doesn’t necessarily mean they have your best interest at heart.
