1st time visiting the Pavilion and we loved it. Best Theater we've been to in Glasgow in terms of friendly warm atmosphere. We pre ordered drinks for the interval and they arrived promptly with no trouble at all. Our show was 80% women so the toilets had very very long ques, with a lot of ladies nipping out accross the toad yo use the toilets there. Will definitely be back
I have only been in the theatre three times in my 35 years and the seating is amazing. For access for visitors with disabilities is great as you go through another way outside which I never knew about. To get to the stalls the stair case way is like a maze and it is very tight to get up and down the stairs while trying to get by people. But I'm very happy to see that the Pavllion is still going strong and to see the rocky horror there was amazing
This is one of Glasgow's oldest theatres. It was opened in feb 1904. I love it. It has been a place i have witnessed every kind of entertainment in over the last 60 years of my life. I was first taken there by a beloved aunt at around 11 years old.She was a devotee of Glasgow's famous comedian Lex Mclean.Over decades i have seen comedy, drama, Scottish variety productions,Billy Connolly, Francie and Josie, two standout looong shows by Ken Dodd.Freddie Starr. Endless pantomimes, more shows than i can remember. Finally into the big music nights with amazing shows by BB King, Rory Gallagher,Jeff Healy The theatre retains all it original charm with its french style beautiful balconies and decor over a staggering 119 years of presenting every kind of show imaginable. Tonight is was the unique guitar stylings of the Australian Maestro Tommy Emmanuel. This place couldn't be more special.Try to go at least once in your life.Yeah! that great an experience.
Not a reflection of the show we saw, but the venue. It was unbearable to be in at points. Seating was extremely painful because it was so cramped. The queueing at the interval for toilets and the bar was so chaotic I thought there was going to be a brawl at one point. People queueing on the stairs, trying to push past- it was so dangerous. No staff to be seen anywhere. They should have had some organisation or a system in place with staff directing people. Utter shambles.
Wonderful atmosphere, well maintained yet a step into 1904 - a must-see!
The theatre was comfortable and the show was fantastic Hen Night Horror. The only possible downside was that we were in the stalls with my mother who has restricted mobility and going down all those stairs and then up stairs was extremely difficult. Getting out was much easier as there is a side entrance with a ramp. Being directed there and allowed to enter from there would have made the whole night much more enjoyable and relaxing for us all.
Uncomfortable & poor access is my overall viewpoint. My first visit tonight and there was no details at point of booking that to access front row stalls you go down a flight of stairs then up a flight of stairs, not good with mobility issues. Seats are also significantly more narrow than any other theatre i have attended. Finally if front row, lights on the stage obscure your view.
The Pavilion is a great theatre with much history, and is truly Scottish, showcasing much of Scotlands home grown talent. Tonight though was The Rocky Horror Show with JasonDonocan....was great, great fun. Staff are respectfully chatty and interested in you as a customer and friendly. You've got to visit this incredible piece of history ..check out the ceilings, plasterwork and relief statues. Do it.
Quick and easy entry with pleasant staff who were happy to direct us to our seats. Nice theatre, very nostalgic. Reminded me of being a kid at Xmas and going to the panto!
Dianne and I attended the Butler, Blake and Grant supported by Harley Kimbro Lewis last night for Celtic Connections. What a night. The latter were a brilliant slice of pure Americana, really well received by an enthusiastic full house. The main dish was friendly, cheery, relaxed but with beautiful harmonies and guitar playing. Bernard Butler really made Dianne's night by singing 'Yes', outstanding. The old Pavilion made a great night even more intimate and enjoyable. Bravo .
