Palnackie Village Shop Ltd is a small shop run by the community for the community.
On 31st January 2013 the village shop was to close. Our local council, Buittle Community Council, entered into negotiations with Roy McCourt, the owner, and with the support of the village and money from the wind farm Robin Rigg, the shop re=opened on 13th January 2014 run by a manager, Todd McCourt, and a team of volunteers who were trained to work in the shop. This involved knowing how to operate the till, how to organise the newspapers in the morning, what to do a cash-up time before closing, checking stock and keeping the shop clean and tidy.
We are now into our second year of trading and at the moment are undergoing a major refurbishment. We secured a sum of money from the National Lottery and from Eon and are able to have the shop repainted, to have new flooring and LED lighting, to have a new freezer, fridge and shelving. The counter is to be re-positioned, and we will have a new, more secure, outside door as well as a fire door between the house and the shop. Watch this space!
