Story

Olympic Sports Gym, run by the Clegg family is one of the longest established Gyms in the area ever since Mick Clegg (ex united coach) set it up over 29 years ago. Olympic Gym is renowned for it's friendly, approachable staff and great atmosphere. It's members range from elite athletes to complete novices wishing to get fit!



"Olympic Sports Gym, based in Portland Mill, Ashton-Under-Lyne was established in 1983 by Mick Clegg who was the Manchester United football club Strength & Conditioning Coach from 2000 - 2011. OSG aims to be the top No Contract / PAYG pay as you go per session gym in in the North.Olympic Gym has been run by Mick and the Clegg family for over 30 years providing a lifetime of experience to residents of the Tameside area. The gym is the biggest weights gym in Tameside with the largest selection of free weights around. The gym has featured many times in Muscle and Fitness magazine and really is a hidden treasure in Ashton under lyne. People come far and wide to train here with an outstanding reputation in the fitness world."

A not so average - average Joe's gym.. 5 stars all the way! Tons and tons of equipment, regardless of what type of workout you're wanting to do. The staff are great and there's a friendly atmosphere throughout and a motivating energy which really helps when you've got a goal to achieve. It's great value for money and the thing I'd say I like the most about this gym is that no matter what time you go in even during peak periods you can always get on a machine and crack on with your workout, because there's such an incredible amount to choose from.
What can I say this gym is amazing has everything you need for them gains, staff are amazing got every machine you need for beginners and seasoned gym goers great environment and friendly people and all for a great price per month
Love this gym, people are really friendly and their is so many machines I can hardly count there is no waiting for machines and you can go on any machine you like I’ve been going to this gym since February and has never let me down
Awesome gym been coming here for years. Staff are amazing. Mandy, Mark, Steve, Adam all ace. Equipment is the Best around with a separate boxing and circuit rooms. Join if you want a real gym.
Love this place, proper old school gym, good old fashioned equipment and lots of it too, never had to wait for a machine etc as there are so many of them, the boxing room at the back is well equipped with 6 hanging bags and loads of other equipment and yes the plaster may be coming off the walls but it adds to the character of the gym! No nonsense place! The people that use the gym are very friendly as are the staff too.
Best gym going, great staff, great members and great kit
I have been using this gym for over 15 years, from being a teenager living in the area to now when I come back to visit my family. Getting a session in at Olympic is as important to me as seeing all my childhood friends. I have travelled a good portion of the world and have never found a gym I prefer over this one. Maybe it's a nostalgia thing, but it really is a special place for me. Mark was always very encouraging when we were gangly little kids coming in for our daily bench and biceps sessions.
The gym offers a free pass for seven days which is definitely a good thing. There is a shop from which you can buy proteins bars and shakes. There is a very good boxing area with a range of different weights and also boxing gloves to try out. There is alot of gym equipment however some of the equipment is slightly outdated. This gym also provides a weight scale in pound and kilogrammes. I personally enjoyed the gym as the gym wasn't overcrowded which is a big positive at the gym!
Absolutly love olympic gym the best in ashton by far lovely enviroment always a pleasent welcome would highly recommend anyone to join they have many PTs who are great so dont delay get to olympic gym today
