Had a fantastic time at Old Shades! The food was amazing—ordered the pan-roasted duck and steak & ale pie, and both were cooked to perfection. The duck was tender, and the steak was just right. The vibe here is great—very classy and cozy for a pub. Special shoutout to Diana, who gave us excellent service and recommended the best dishes. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for great food and a welcoming atmosphere!
One of the gorgeous pubs with one of the nicest teams in London! We enjoyed delicious cups of tea and coffee in afternoon. We will definitely be back! Thank you to the amazing bartenders for the warm welcome! We can’t wait to try the cocktails next time!
Old Shades has a beautiful interior, friendly and helpful staff, and great food. We were walking between sights in London and the outside of Old Shades caught our eye. When we entered mid-afternoon between lunch and dinner it was not too busy, so we were seated right away. Our server was attentive and made sure we were taken care of. We had the Steak and Ale pie, the Fish and Chips, and a rump steak. The Fish and Chips was perfection, nothing negative I could say about it. The pie was actually a pie, which was great, and it was also tasty. The steak was cooked exactly as ordered and was excellent. All of our chips were crisp and well cooked. It took quite a while to get our food; not sure if they were short staffed that day, but we weren't in a rush so it was fine. Highly recommended. Wheelchair accessibility: We had a person using a wheelchair for our visit. Entry into the restaurant was simple, and there is an accessible bathroom on the ground floor if needed.
Stopped here on a long layover and had the best end to our girls trip. Despite being very busy the team was incredibly accommodating. They were able to sit us quickly despite not having a reservation and provided great beer recommendations. We had the Sunday lamb roast and fish & chips, which were fantastic. The fish & chips were super crispy and flaky. Sunday roast was our favorite party, we can’t wait to come back to London just to have this again !
I ate the whole pie. Steak and ale, that is. So good. This was our first pub dinner on our stay in London and it didn’t disappoint. Service was quick. Staff was super friendly. And the atmosphere exactly as it should have been. Thank you, The Old Shades!Food: 5/5
Fish and chips were excellent! Lightly battered and not oily. Service was wonderful- attentive, quick, and so kind. We came with our 9 month old twins and a large pram and they accommodated us easily. Great relaxed pub feel inside. Would definitely come back.Food: 5/5
Busy pub in tourist-central Westminster. Decent enough food at expected central London prices above average quality wine list. The soup of the day was a still very tasty cream of onion rather than the stated French onion, the rare steak was basically blue not a problem for us, but in case others mind, the cabbage was swimming in butter and pretty tasteless, and the venison carpaccio needed extra salt but was beautifully tender. Staff were friendly but service was fairly slow. Music too loud and intrusive for much conversation. All in all, wouldn't go back on a Saturday evening - probably better for lunch.
We had a lovely lunch at the Old Shades. The service was great, food was good we had the Chicken Pie and the drinks were cold. Overall the experience was pleasurable and Beks our server was attentive and friendly
Came here for dinner on a Monday night. Almost every table was taken but the bartender was so friendly and helpful, finding a spot for us right away. Jackson was our waiter and he had great beer recommendations. Really enjoyed his fun and playful personality. For food, we ordered the ale pie and fish and chips. Both were generously portioned and tasty. Restaurant atmosphere is 10/10. If you can, try and sit towards the back as there’s a fireplace and a cozier vibe.
Came in on a whim after a long flight. We sat at the bar and Beks got us the beer we needed. Not only was the beer good the fish and chips, and the sausage dish was amazing! I will be coming back next time I’m in London.Food: 5/5
