The Oakingham Belle is a new pub in Wokingham just off the A329M via London Road. The pub is vibrant and bright inside with a lovely relaxing feel. Lots of tables to choose from for your meal with a good selection of drinks including ales. The staff are friendly, polite and attentive. This is also a dog friendly pub for those with four legged friends. There are also televisions with the football or similar playing. On the day it was Sunday so I went for the mixed roast. This is a big meal and comes in at 1700 kcals! The Yorkshire pudding the best I have had and the pork crackling … oh yes. The meal was really good but the only slight let down was the beef which was just too chewy and hard to cut. I put this down to bad luck on the day. At the end I gave the waitress ? some feedback and was reminded if I had said she could have got a replacement from the kitchen - one to remember, I simply wasn’t thinking. The food really was good though so I’m going back. Ale I had was Old Empress - perfect example of an ale and was spot on consistency wise. Recommended. Little gem.
Friendly and cozy ambiance. Nice and helpful staff. It can get quite busy during evenings, so i recommend booking in advance, especially if you are a larger group. Average prices. Good stakes. Indoor and outdoor sitting. The fries weren't the best, though.
Visited this pub twice on a weekend away....it was across the road from the hotel we stayed at. Well decorated cosy pub, staff were friendly, atmosphere was good. Had a quick drink on the first visit and a Sunday lunch on the second but ending home. I had a turkey roast, and my partner had the pork roast. I asked for a kids/small turkey roast, which was an excellent size for a small eater. Beautiful cooked and well presented. Ordered a cauliflower cheese to share, which was nicely cheesy and saucy. All of our party thought it was lovely.
I booked online whilst on our way just in case it was busy, was straight forward and received the confirmation immediately. Only popped in for lunch to catch up with a friend, staff were very nice and welcoming. We had fish & chips and burger & chips which were both pretty good. The portion size was fine for a lunch but this was off the main menu, I think I'd feel a little dissapointed if I were to have this as my main meal for the day compared to the price which was around £15 each. Just a little pricey for me.
One of the best Sunday roast I had in awhile ! The lamb was so tender and juicy ! The portions were massive ! Very friendly and helpful staff , always so polite and ready to help … worth the 1.5 hr from Bournemouth. Can’t wait to come back soon and try the rest of the menu
Very helpful and friendly staff. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Really enjoyed the evening and I would highly recommend it for a family night out.
Really gone down hill from last visit , service was either very slow or actually non existent I ended up going to bar 3 times to get drinks, cutlery and glasses,.as when the starters were cleared cutlery was not replaced and waiting staff were so busy would have taken ages. I ordered my usual favourite of homemade kebabs , one chicken and chorizo £13 and a extra lamb one £4, Chicken one was delicious the lamb one was totally inedible as it was just pieces of marinated gristle on a stick. About 30 mins after finishing the table was cleared and was asked how it was , so I explained that gristle on a stick was not acceptable. It was obvious as the chewed remans were still in the plate impossible to eat as opposed to not liking it Apparently they have had a few complaints about that main... which obviously asks the question why it's offered . The kebabs are supposed to be homemade so the cook can't be a chef , had actually made the decision that serving gristle on a stick was a acceptable decision for a £17 main! It's worth noting that it would be obvious that the meat was such a low quality as sticking it on a skewer would have actually been quite difficult. Manager was informed via waiting staff and asked us how to make it right , so he made the decision to refund the £4 for that actual kebab not the full dish and Comp us a second bottle of wine , which was appreciated but in reality would have preferred a edible meal. I really do appreciate the slow service is probably down to inexperienced and a low number of staff , but charging £17 for something you physically can't eat is just ridiculous, especially when it would have been so obvious while preparing it . Possitive note , online booking easy to use and the bar staff quick and efficient, starters were lovely.
Ok, so we were staying around the corner in the Hilton thought we would try this pub as the reviews send pretty good. Ordered garlic bread and cheeseburgers for the kids, meals were ok although burgers were very peppery but still edible. Came to the mains which turned up very late, I had to chase the orders when the kids did arrived I was told it maybe was shortly coming as they were finishing cooking the lamb shank . Ordered a steak and a lamb shank, the steak they forgot I ordered onion rings and bernaise sauce. Bernaise sauce was congealed and claggy and ended up sending this back. The lamb shank was really bad it was super dry like it had to let hanging out under the heat lamp for way too long. Hard to overcook lamb shank but there was a talent required here to make it so hard and dry. The mash potato had hard bits in it again probably left out the in the warmer or heat lamp for too long. So when the waitress came over and asked how everything was, we had to say it was inedible and they asked if there was anything else they could do, to be fair don't think I wanted to order anything else. At which point they should have let the manager know, instead the waiting staff pretty much left us alone they knew we weren't happy so played the avoidance card, I was too tired to have to chase my food and chase the manager. In all, avoid this place, if your staying at the hotel order a takeaway from anywhere else for drive to the town ten minutes away. Paid for all the food but obviously no tip.
An absolute gem of pub, great food, great atmosphere and best of all fantastic service from the staff, keep up the great work and I’ll be back to visit soon.
The food was excellent, and nothing left on the plates. The service was attentive. Can't wait to come back.
