I’m not really sure where to start. I’ve never left a bad review in my life. We have visited Scalby for the past 3 years with my parents, my in-laws and our 3 year old. We booked The Oak Wheel for Mother’s Day lunch and when I rang to book they said the earliest reservation is 12pm, although we could arrive slightly early as they actually open their doors at 11:45am. I distinctly remembering the man I spoke to saying we could get settled at our table and that staff start taking food orders at 12. We arrived at 11:52 and before I could even sit down one of the members of staff quite aggressively told me that we were late and we were supposed to have our order in by 12. I told her this wasn’t what I was told on the phone and her reply was that we could only order roasts now and nothing else from the menu - which left us with a small choice of 3 roast options and two of our party don’t like meat. I was totally taken aback, not only was she incredibly rude but it was embarrassing in front of the other diners. Despite her wasting two minutes being rude to us, we STILL managed to get our order in by 12 and were then rudely told we had to be gone by 13:15. We rushed our mains but then had to wait some time for staff to take our desert orders we eventually had to call someone over. We also rushed our deserts and left by 13:10. The whole experience was just awful and incredibly upsetting. This was supposed to be a lovey day for us and it was completely ruined by appalling customer service which was just utterly uncalled for. We will be returning to Scalby for years to come, but I can safely say we will never be returning to The Oak Wheel. Politeness and kindness costs nothing.
Went for breakfast and it was delicious. Everything tasted fresh and perfectly cooked. Only criticism was my poached egg wasn't runny but everything else was really niceService: 4/5
Just passing through Scarborough and stopped off here for an evening meal with my wife and our border collie dog. This place lives up to the excellent reviews without a doubt. We received a warm friendly welcome from all the staff, and the food was just excellent, with generous portions. Our only gripe is that we wish we lived locally! We will not hesitate to call in again next time we’re passing.
Went here for sunday dinner. Was on holiday and looking at reviews. So glad we chose here. Absolutely lovely. Lots of meat. Plenty of veg. Great yorkshire pudding. Maybe a splash more gravy but i was 2/3rds through before deciding that.
Lovely homemade steak & ale & mushroom pie, delicious home made chips and veg cooked to perfection, staff very pleasant and seating area spacious comfortable and warm, thank you, we will be back
Nice and clean food well presented and hot ,not a lot of choice , it felt a little cold inside ,afraid on today l can understand them not putting heating on .Very pleasant staff would try again
Went for dinner, really good food. Polite and friendly staff. Leave plenty of room for pud as they are superb, but big portions. Very enjoyable, thanks to team @ The Oak Wheel.
Great pub. Very friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are well appointed and of a good size and there is a large car park. The breakfast and evening meals were fantastic. Would definitely recommend and we will be returning.
Our group of 4 adults and 1 child had great meal here last night and fab prices All had different mains and all tasted beautiful Freshly cooked with perfectly cooked veg & good portion sizes . Child’s pizza and fries too big for our 7 YO who has large appetite Shared couple of puddings. Choc cheese cake, giant meringue and ice cream were gorgeous. Young very pleasant staff and warm atmosphere. Highly recommend it
