This is one of my favourite places in London. It is beautiful gothic urban wilderness with a grounding reminder of many who have passed before us. Striking, peaceful and mostly reclaimed by tumbling lush nature. Walking up the meandering crunching gravel paths and the more adventurous paths between in any weather always feels like such a serene and earthy treat. I wish there were more places like this in London.

The ascent along the lime tree-lined avenue from the main gates to the Gothic Chapel is dramatic, disquieting and unforgettable. Now designated a nature reserve, largely smothered by undergrowth, shrubs and a wide variety of mostly mature trees. Partially restored and undulating over sloping contours, appropriately somber and redolent. Ever so quiet high up here.

Everyone should check the times on the gate and not online as Google have them wrong. winter it closes at 4pm/5pm and summer 7pm

South east londons secret! A great place for a stroll or run, views in places over London and it feels like your out in the countryside but surrounded by so much history and not that busy!
