A wonderful place to spend a sunny morning, a genuine oasis in London. Some incredible wildlife and great characters in the park. Open early and well looked after by the volunteers of the trust. Don't forget to drop off a small donation for the upkeep of the park, it's worth it!

Abney Park cemetery is one of the Magnificent Seven cemeteries in London, England. Abney Park in Stoke Newington, in the London Borough of Hackney, is a historic parkland originally laid out in the early 18th century by Lady Mary Abney and Dr. Isaac Watts, and the neighbouring Hartopp family. In 1840 it became a non-denominational garden cemetery, a semi-public park arboretum, and an educational institute, which was widely celebrated as an example of its time. A total of 196,843 burials had taken place there up to the year 2000. It is a Local Nature Reserve.

Stunning cemetery being reclaimed by nature. Wander and read about those, past.

Interesting Victorian Cemetery good for an explore. The founder of the Salvation Army was also buried here.

Every time I visit it again reinforces why it's one of my favourite places in London. Right in the middle of bustling Stoke Newington, stepping into this cemetery is like stepping back in time and place - it doesn't feel like central London at all. It features amazing gothic tombstones, a church and some great off the beaten tracks for walking. Be warned - the creep factor is high - but so worth it.
