Cannot recommend this tour enough. Our guide Peter was fantastic from start to finish. His knowledge of the cemetery and the people buried there is remarkable. I came with plenty of questions and he answered every single one. Honestly did not expect to find it all so captivating.nThe Victorian history woven throughout gives the visit real depth, and the gothic atmosphere of the surroundings adds so much to the experience. Despite the setting, the tour never felt morbid. It was more a celebration of the lives remembered here, and Peter spoke about the dead with genuine respect, which I found quite moving.nWould happily visit again and encourage others to do the same. It is a charity worth supporting and an experience worth having.
Highgate cemetery is run by a wonderful non profit org and a team of volunteers. You can tell they’re very passionate about the upkeep and history of the cemetery. I took a guided tour with Ben - who I would definitely recommend as a guide. He’s super knowledgeable- fun- and very kind. He’s open to questions and I could tell has a true passion for what he is doing. Great staff- great experience. Thanks Ben!!!
I've visited a few cemeteries over the years. This one - beyond the famous tombs - is really special. It is just beautiful. I understand the fuss people make when they visit the place. Take your time around both cemeteries east and west side. Walk and watch.nFun fact, when I was there, it was heavily raining.
Truly nice to be able to walk amongst those who have been such larger than life characters, MalcolmnMcLaren being just on such person. We did not opt for the photo of George Michaels Headstone, unlike some who felt it was okay to stand on the grave, so disrespectful. It was so nice to pay my respects to this great person in life. It’s really nice knowing to the Charity take care of the Cemetery and allow access and offer tours. Naturally so many fine people to see and learn about, but equally sad we have lost such fine people.
A must if you are looking for something to do in London. I strongly recommend the Highlights Tour of the West Side. Well worth it. Our guide was very passionate and knowledgeable. It was money well spent. Such an amazing place.
