This is one of the best vets we’ve visited. All the staff is amazing and helpful! We keep visiting them even after we moved from the area. Mateo is a great professional vet and it’s the doctor to whom we fully trust our little baby dog Lily. Lily loved him as well from the first time she has met him! Thank you for being such a nice and professional clinic and I hope it will be always like that
Routine procedure On March 4th, Patty, my healthy 15 month old pet English bulldog went in to be spayed. The next morning her condition deteriorated, heavy breathing, not eating and clearly in physical discomfort. Upon calling the vet at 11am I was informed, via receptionist and not a qualified vet directly, the most likely reason was her prescribed pain medication was not effective, and to return several hours later without Patty to pay/collect alternative medication - yet also informed upon my own query NOT to provide it for 24hrs. Meaning my pets symptoms would obviously not improve for the next 24 hours… the subsequent 8 hours were simply horrific, my dog paced restlessly, continuing to pant and breathe laboured. At 2am she collapsed from a seizure and immediately rushed to the local emergency vet where she tragically succumbed to internal bleeding of fluid on the lungs. NB - additional cost of £800 and the EMERGENCY out of hours service for Norwood practice is 9 miles away in Cheam - completely impractical location The actual diagnosis will remain TBC - untreated lung worm, surgical complications, injured trachea, genetic defect - ultimately we will never know unless I spend a small fortune performing a post mortem, and to what avail? There would be no recourse even if the surgery was at fault. However, what is clearly evident is she was healthy then passed away within 36hrs of having a ‘routine’ operation. Whilst I do not blame the specific vet, accidents happen after all, I’m left feeling an overwhelming injustice and total failure in the aftercare by this practice. There is zero accountability. The explanation I received detailed every potential reason for her demise except the procedure itself. My understanding is that during this surgical recovery period, the animal remains firmly under their care. In this instance, they were promptly informed of my concerns and I believe the matter was not taken sufficiently serious - leading to a phone misdiagnosis of a highly time sensitive issue. Absolutely no pet should ever suffer in this manner - we trust vets implicitly with our beloved animals, to provide adequate care and advice - which they are generously paid to do so another topic now rightfully under national scrutiny. At this point we can only hope they learn from this specific case and will prioritise all animals under recuperation from surgery. Please do not underestimate the impact surgery has on your pets body or how crucial the next 48 hours are.
This is one of the best vets that I have been to. All of the staff are very nice from the moment you walk through the door. They make myself & my kitten Luna feel at ease and are extremely professional. I Would definitely recommend. 5 service.
Norwood Road have been incredibly professional, efficient and compassionate during a really worrying time. All of the staff have been brilliant including reception and nurses but having a 'regular' point of contact in the form of Mateo who now knows our dog and her temperament is particularly important to me. This enables advice and treatment to be tailored to suit our dog's individual needs. Additionally, the speed at which they could carry out an unexpected operation plus post-op appointments over the Christmas period was all exceptionally appreciated and reassuring.
Have been with this practice for over 30 years but unfortunately yesterday we took an injured stray cat to the practice and were charged £60. They refused to treat the cat unless we paid £700 for the treatment and they were prepared to put the cat back on the street in sub zero temperatures. Utterly appalled at the lack of compassion . We subsequently have taken this cat to another veterinary practice where he is being treated. I will never go back to Norwood veterinary practice. This practice is no longer an independent one and is part of a large company. Sadly I do not recommend this practice. I have been with this practice for over 30 years and it is with a heavy heart I have to write this review.
At NRVS we found the best veterinary service for our little Shih Tzu. The team is friendly and helpful, with the most amazing vet you could ever meet: Mateo. Even for our particularly demanding family, NRVS has always exceeded our expectations, offering us a service that grant quick and precise solutions to our problems. They have a team you can trust, and I am happy I can always count on them.
Norwood vet surgery is the place where I take Jasper, our cat, once a year for his annual visit and vaccine. It is a stroll across Brockwell Park from our flat, it is clean and bright with seating that are convenient to drop a cat box. The veterinaries are very competent and the receptionist friendly and helpful and now that we have subscribed to the pet plan, our expenses are budgeted for the year.
Traumatised my dog for life!!! My dog had his nails cut at this vet. They took him to the back whilst I waited at the reception. I heard my dog crying very loudly, to the point where I became very concerned. Before I went in to stop whatever was happening, my dog came out shaking and limping. The nurse told me that my dog was very "reactive" to having his nails cut and that they had two of the vets pin him down whilst the other cut his nails. She proceeded to roll her eyes and call him a “drama queen". Seeing my dog like this made me cry. When I checked his paws, 4 of his nails had bled. The nurse proceeded to teach me how to desensitise my dog and told me to "touch his paws often". I touch my dogs paws all the time, he has never had an issue with this. How on earth can you continue to cut a dogs nails when it is clearly in distress, especially if you have made them bleed?! This would be torture for anyone! I have never had any issues with having his nails cut, he is not a reactive dog and has the sweetest personality. For him to react that way, he must have been under extreme stress. When I took him to my usual vet they told me that a dog should never be forced into that situation and that this will surely traumatise him for the rest of his life. They told me that any decent vet would stop immediately in this case and recommend a sedative for the dog, not pin him down and hurt him. I am now paying for desensitisation sessions for him, due to the carelessness of this vet. I hope that no one has to go through this as it was not only traumatising for my dog but also for me.
Surgery dispensed medication that was meant to be administered over the course of 2-3mo with an expiry date at the end of 1mo manufacturer’s guidance was that it needed to be thrown out at end of expired month - after contacting the practice after noticing the expiry date the practice manager refused a refund or replacement medication. This was not cheap medication either and costed £116, so only 1/3 of that price was actually effective. Also to add - I usually order a repeat prescription of apoquel 100 tabs, half daily for the past 2-3 years with norwood and streatham hill vets - something has changed within norwood road’s operations where they now only dispensed 50 tablets. Looking at the other reviews, the surgery seems more like a cash grab over the course of the past 6mo.
I’ve been using Norwood Road Vets practice for nearly 10 years. Having visited other vets nearby when searching, they were the only ones who weren’t rude and were very helpful! The reception staff are delightful and always cheerful. Ellie and all the staff have been wonderful - especially when my dog needed an operation and multiple visits a year ago. The care and advice received was amazing! There seems to be new vets and practice staff at my visit yesterday, however they were just as knowledgeable and helpful. The bonus is my dog Afro LOVES going there and gets very excited as we approach the door. I literally recommended Norwood Road Vets to a friend yesterday!
