Absolutely wonderful staff, who are passionate about the place and so nice to talk to! Went on a walk around the property, enjoyed a picnic and then had a very informative guided tour with Jan who made Newhailes stories so alive and relatable. Huge thanks for this! The café is really nice and offers a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan choices Can't wait to go back and do another tour.

Wonderful house tour and cafe! Got lucky with a 1 on 1 tour on a weekday. Friendly staff who are knowledgeable and passionate about the grounds!
One of our favourite walks, super dog friendly rammed full with dogs on a Sunday morning. Cannot really go into the house but the grounds are very nice and cafe is great as well with sandwiches, bagels, paninies, toasties and sweet baked goods on offer. Nice for brunch and lunch after a walk. In the autumn/winter etc bring wellies though as part of the walks around the field and close to the river turn to mush!
A lovely day out. Easy drive from Leith, ample parking, lovely cafe in the stable block, and beautiful grounds to explore. On this visit we didn't go into the house as the weather was so good. However, I can highly recommend the veggie sausage and fried eggs breakfast roll!
I've just been on the behind the scenes tour of this fascinating building. I would recommend it as very atmospheric as well as informative.

Well, this was my first time at a National Trust place, and it was quite lovely, indeed! Amazing play area for children, with a host of play structures for climbing and sliding and running around - even separate zip slides for younger and older children. I really liked the walks, including by the old water gardens, though they are now in a somewhat more natural state than they were made to be. The tour of the house itself is interesting, I'm told, and the stables courtyard and other areas are lovely to be in. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Overall, a really great place.

Cafe, parking, children’s playground and picnic areas. Access to main house by guided tour only. Last tours at 2 pm. Open green spaces but no landscaped or walled gardens, and no flowers.
