Went there for the national dragon boat championship rowing lake. Did not stay at the hotel. The location is good and it’s nice to have decent toilet and changing facilities. The biggest gripe is the food and drink. A small white coffee was £4 more than the main chains medium size and lunch was £13! for quite basic food.
On visiting the park for the first time as a blue badge holder. I googled about blue badge parking. It said first 3 hours are free. This is not true. Even tho a small sign on the right half way in says free parking. Apparently not. You must read the sign on the entrance/exit. Very confusing. Parking should be made more simple and not to catch you out in order to give you a £60 fine. We only visited our grandchildren playing. Also very disappointed with the tatty unclean cafe outdoor area with broken chairs and a lick of paint wouldn't go a miss. I would give it a wide birth with how expensive and worn out the Play areas are. Just another rip off park area. Definitely wouldn't go or recommend. AVOID Safety: Broken chairs very tatty and worn play areas came across unprofessional .
The single rooms are tiny, the rooms are very warm but windows open slightly onto the car park so it's either privacy or a small amount of air. The shower is ok but again a tight squeeze for a 16 stone man. The entrance is secure but have to ask to enter after 9pm. The location is great, it's on a man made lake with woodlands surrounding . No food or shops but can order to the hotel Rooms: Small but functional, pillows are thin Safety: Safe location and secure rooms Walkability: A great walk around the lake or into the woods, feels very safe and secure Food & drinks: Older from Uber eats and can be dropped at reception for you. No food on site or local shop
A fantastically placed site. Very busy on the weekends but reasonably quiet during the week. I was disappointed when we arrived that noone came to show us the pitch, it took a couple of attempts despite the map to work out where we were supposed to be. Despite the site being very upto date the cleanliness of the showers and toilets was disappointing. Sanitary bins not emptied over the weekend. No mop in the showers which meant the floors were filthy with mud and grass from the previous occupant. There was also no hair drier available in the showers, which seemed like a basic they had missed. I also wish the family/ disabled showers had been more clear on their maps as we didn't discover these until our last night. Showering 2 under 6's in their small cubicles could have been much easier if info was clearer, or as I say if there was someone more willing to speak when you arrive. However, if you're just here for access to water sport, it is amazing. Barely a ten minute walk to the regatta lake and then access to all the other activities. Nearby activities: Safari mini jeeps, air tykes and access to paddleboards, canoe and water rafting. Walkability: Ten minute walk through the campsite and across one road will get.you to the regatta lake. A nice flat wander, great if you have bikes.
Visited with hubby disabled. On arrival found a triathlon in progress. Car parking was shambolic, half staff didn't know whst others were doing - some saying free parking others saying all pay. Never actually found a disabled slot but able to patk relatively easily. Cafe service not bad - quite busy but to be expected. Trying to stroll round country park area was a nightmare. No clear routes marked for public or entrants. However still enjoyed our visit
Did outlaw triathlon. Sadly booked car park from my phone and thought I booked for the weekend. Sadly it only registered for the Saturday. Got hit with a £60 for the Sunday. Online on the phone it looked like I pressed the weekend option. I wish the layout of the website was clearer on the iPhone as I could have done without paying £60 fine. Bit annoyed.
Didn’t stay over, great range of activities available although disappointed wipeout wasn’t allowed for children under 8 as age doesn’t determine capabilities.. Golf course is tired and needs fixing however some lovely girls that work there, two in particular on the mini land rovers and golf course that stood out. Mini land rovers was There could also better public transport links on a Saturday
Race for live event today so it was very busy but most seemed to leave right after. We had a lovely walk round the whole of the rowing course. Took our time and explored a few bits along the way. I bit crafty but a great day…Location: 4/5
I was there as a spectator, the cafe there was horrendous, over priced & Lord only knows what the 'food' was that they were serving. It's a sports facility, maybes fresh food would be an idea. I didn't know bottled salsa was a thing, or bottled guacamole, a thing so green it looks radioactive. I wanted to contribute to the services on offer, I was wrong to do that. Will defo will be taking my own food next time.
Great lake. and facilities, the staff is friendly. I had a horrible experience with people walking, chatting loudly and slamming doors at 3 am. Most pets are more civilised than people like that. We phoned the reception and we shouted through the door to shut up and eventually they did, but it’s horrible to even think that people like that exist in this world: the only excuse is drugs or alcohol. Most hotels should keep an eye on night movements. People paid for a comfortable sleep. If you can’t secure that it means you cannot provide a service. Rooms: The rooms are ok, a bit small, you will need to bring your own shampoo, the hand-wash is missing. The soap in the shower had a funny smell like alcohol. I can imagine it was mixed or I was not used with it. The door slams so you might wake up in the night if someone walks in or out. Safety: I doubt that safety is taken into consideration. When you allow people to scream in the night you put the entire hotel and clients in an awkward position where they don’t feel safe. Noteworthy details: Make sure you bring your shampoo and demand the reception to make sure they protect the noise levels by checking their cameras and waking down the corridors when night traffic is intense.
