A La Ronde was built by a couple of female cousins in the 1790's, they had the idea of making full use of the sun by building a round structure so they could move from room to room as the day progressed. There is a good NT cafe in the lower part of the house formerly occupied by the servants. The upper stories are built around a central atrium and the rooms can be reached from the atrium or from the adjacent room. The cousins had a fascination for sea shells and there are many fine examples as you look around. On the uppermost level there is a gallery decorated entirely in shells and, although this was being conserved at the time of my visit, you can view it using remote cameras. There are some fine views over the Exe estuary. I thoroughly recommend a visit.

A very different but very nice National Trust property. Unlike the stately home experience you get an up close and personal experience of a wealthy, interesting (and a bit eccentric) family. If you are driving the M5 near Exeter it's worth coming off and making a small detour to visit this property and you can enjoy some very decent food in their cafe as well.

Really interesting building. The girls enjoyed the Easter egg trail despite the rain. Volunteers were quite strict about which way round the house you could go, not a problem unless you have a 2 year old who doesn't give a s*** about the rules!

Great unique little place. Depending on the time of year access to the house is by guided tours only (avaliable at reception) Well worth the visit if your already in the area. Not large enough to warrent a long drive or if your planning on spending most of the day here. But fascinating nonetheless
