Worst possible experience. On two separate occasions I was treated like a human piece of garbage. First time I approached the desk as there was absolutely nobody near the queue or behind the counter. After several minutes of waiting the clerk finally showed up only to tell me that I'm not supposed to be standing here and I should be waiting to be called. Second occasion was much worse. I came to the post office to send a parcel containing one book to Poland. The large envelope I packed the book in weighed just under 1300g so well within the limits. Clerk asked me security questions and when she heard it was a book she looked the screen and refused the parcel saying that books are on the list if prohibited items to be send to Poland. I thought that must be a mistake but was still refused. So I checked Royal Mail website for prohibited items list. Books are not on it. I decided to come back to post office and asked for any form of reason on why I was refused in writing. To my surprise I was told that "we don't really do it" in a very patronising manner and to check the website for more information. I told the clerk I already did just to hear "it's there, you just have to get into it to find it". Absolute joke of the post office. Avoid at all cost!

Proud winners of the "2017 Grumpiest Woman Behind a Counter Awards", they look set to sweep the boards again in 2018. Upon arrival you are greeted by a withering stare peppered with deeply held contempt. It goes downhill from there. "Your parcel is too small for the label." It wasn't. "That address is written too small." I've written smaller. Millions of times. "We don't have those stamps." Silly me. Thought it was a post office. They truly are the gold standard for sour-pussed inefficiency and disobliging recalcitrance.

I'm reading the reviews & I must say I'm baffled because I've had a very different experience contrary to the reviews. On one occasion I went in to post a parcel although the last time I did this I asked if I could buy a post pack from them to put it in which I did but this time the first woman (both working that day I would say we're middle aged) snapped & said we don't have them you'll have to buy one from the other shops as if I should have known. I went & bought packaging then returned & went to the counter this time to the other woman because the other one was serving someone else & asked if they had an address label because the only packaging I could find didn't have a label like the post packs do. She then said oh we don't have them you have to do everything yourself so I said ok what should I put on it to write the address & she snapped & said well you just write on it & rolled her eyes. Both women that day I felt were very patronising & rude I felt (I'm in my thirties but people often think I'm in my twenties) so I don't know if that's how they treat their younger customers or people who aren't regular but I thought the customer service was an absolute disgrace that day & if it ever happened again I would complain. I work for telephone banking & our conversations with customers are heavily monitored if we ever spoke to a customer like that we'd be hauled over the coals trust me. I had to go back the other day as I'd received a parcel that didn't belong to me & I was dreading it but this time it was a younger girl on the counter with dark red hair (might have been dyed) but she was very pleasant & said I should try taking it to the sorting office as they may send it back for free rather than me paying to post it back. So as you can see a total different experience compared with some of the other reviews.

Visited today to post a parcel. Perfect service from lovely counter staff. She explained different rates of postage which helped me to decide how best to send it. She was very pleasant and helpful. Top class service thank you.

The service is ok but they have a maximum of 2 staff on any time I've been there. One of the staff is usually lovely (the lady with the blondish hair) but the young lady with the dark hair is horrible, she's rude to nearly every customer.
