Mornington Crescent Tube Station

Story

Mornington Crescent is a London Underground station in Camden Town in north west London, named after the nearby street. The station is on the Charing Cross branch of the Northern line, between and. It is in Travelcard Zone 2.The station was opened as part of the original route of the Charing Cross, Euston & Hampstead Railway (now the Charing Cross branch of the Northern line) on 22 June 1907. The surface building was designed by the Underground Electric Railways Company of London's (UERL's) architect Leslie Green. Prior to the station's opening, the name of "Seymour Street" had been proposed. After opening, it was little used, and for many years it was open only on weekdays, and before 1966 Edgware-bound trains passed through without stopping.LocationThe station is situated at the southern end of Camden High Street, where it meets Hampstead Road and Eversholt Street. This junction forms the north-western corner of the boundary of Somers Town, with Camden Town situated to the north and Regent's Park Estate to the south of the station. The station's location on the Northern line is unusual due to the dual-branch nature of that line. On the branch, Mornington Crescent is between and. The City branch also runs from Camden Town to Euston, but via tunnels which take an entirely different route to the Charing Cross branch and which do not pass through Mornington Crescent. Although contemporary tube maps show Mornington Crescent to the west of the City branch tunnels, it is in fact to the east of them: the two branches cross over one another at Euston, so that between Euston and Camden Town, the City branch tunnels run to the west of the Charing Cross branch on which Mornington Crescent is situated. Harry Beck's 1933 tube map represented this correctly.

This station is quiet and easy to walk about or find your way. The staff is probably the most helpful and polite in the entire underground network.
Very handy station, close to Camden Town if you want to avoid that station, and some beautiful original architecture too. It's only on the Charing Cross branch so not so good if you're coming via Bank, but that's the way it was built! Lift or stair access only, a very pleasant station.
Had a lovely interaction with Paul and Eugene - they were incredibly warm and personable. Both gentlemen are an asset to TFL and made my evening!
This station is in a bad state and definitely needs some work. Walls, roof, steps, lift are worryingly dirty. Are these the standards in England?
Star of the famous radio 4 quiz, Mornington Crescent! Well worth a visit, above or below ground. Below ground is best accessed on the Northern line Euston branch via Tottenham Court Road
The music video "Be there" by the musical group UNKLE was recorded at this station. A true gem of a song :
So fond of this place. Historic details intact. Comedy heritage trail. 1910s tiles. Walk from here to Camden Town in 10 mins, Kings X in 20 mins. Nifty backup route. Beware A*** office staff cutting in front to fill up the lift up from the exit only side. They're wearing their ID lanyards and don't care this puts the lifts out of order.
Ideally placed station for Camden High St shopping.
Livley quaint Leslie Green station. Handy for the bottom.end of Camden perhaps get off here, if on the right branch of the northern line to take a look at all the high street brands before heading into Camden market and Camden lock The stati on serves the charing cross branch of the northern line, although transfer is possible at the next southbound station, Euston.
Never open in the morning costing me time and money for a poor service. Then they have the nerve to increase price in March. Next time staff strike they won't have my support. Just replace with people who want to work.
