My stay of two weeks saw this hotel improve dramatically. There were a number of issues which the hotel team have worked hard to get fixed. The pool now works, the breakfasts are comparable to other budget hotels. My room was clean and spacious with a good bathroom.  There was entertainment over the May bank holiday and evening meal if wanted. This is an amalgamation of two older hotels and there are still some issues with some rooms e.g. power outlets in my room not working. The beds are more like put me ups but suffice for short stays. Noise when the hotel is full can be an issue with old timbers amplifying movement coupled with very noisy water as toilets are flushed.

Please Avoid. Better hotels and facilities are available for the price. There was scarcity of breakfast for guests staying in the hotel. Initially we were put into the worst room possible (broken shower, broken lock, without WiFi and room filled with dust), after complaining about this, we were provided with another room, where no towels were present and still a dusty room. We had to wait for more than an hour for our vegetarian breakfast as we were forgotten and eventually when we alerted one of the staff member, we were informed that their chef was preparing our bacon! unbelievable, why would you have bacon in your vegetarian breakfast. we then had to confirm that we did not order/request bacon and in the end breakfast turned up after 1.5 hours. Definitely not recommended and would not stay here again.

Thin mattresses, otherwise would've given 5 stars. Lovely staff, lovely pool, well situated and quiet. The building is dated but that add to the charm of the place

Really poor hotel with bad service. The staff were perfectly nice but they didn’t seem to appreciate that having no hot water in the morning was a big deal and when asked we were only offered a measly 5% compensation. (£4!). The room was shabby and didn’t feel clean. It was like going back in a time warp. The only good thing was the location and price but even though it was cheap, i did at least expect to be able to have a hot shower. Don’t go here. There are plenty of other hotels in the area where you only need to pay a bit more.

The bar was comfortable (although one sofa in it was wet) and the staff were well-intentioned. These two factors slightly lift the hotel above 1 star. Every other aspect of it was awful, from the lumpy beds to the pool being out-of-order to the breakfast taking over half an hour to arrive. Not to mention the TV in the room being so miniscule you practically have to watch it with a magnifying glass. The people operating this place really have to get their acts together. I won't be returning.
