This small Marks and Spencer store has a reasonably sized food Hall, a cafe and a clothing section spread over two floors which caters for men, women and children. They pack a lot of goods into the store but it is a bit cramped for space at busy times.

OK. Too much space given over to food and coffee bar. Tries to be all things to all people and doesn't do any of them properly so nobody is really satisfied. On the good side you can order online, collect and return if you don't like the items.

I’ve always liked Marks and Spencer in general and have visited quite a few of their stores around the country over the years. Despite all of the stores being part of the same chain, I’ve definitely noticed quite wide differences between the offerings at different stores (even ones that are of a similar size). When I visited this particular store in Lancaster, I felt that there was a very small menswear section and (without exaggeration) all of the clothes looked like they were designed for someone aged 65+. While I understand that this is an area of the market which they look to serve, I feel they should still at least offer a reasonable range of clothes for all ages. As a whole, the firm seems to be focusing on their more profitable food section and despite the trend for Marks and Spencer seemingly wanting to focus more on the older customer, I haven’t seen quite such a small and lacking in choice menswear clothing section at a Marks and Spencer store for some time, hence the low rating. In addition to clothing, there is also a rather small cafe at the store, which is on the first floor and was quite busy when I visited. While clean, the toilets were also small which led to people having to queue in order to use them which wasn’t the best. There is a ‘food hall’ which takes up a reasonable section of the lower floor, and is probably the best element of the store as it offers a reasonable choice of good quality food and drink. Overall, I think that Marks and Spencer’s standards have dropped when it comes to clothing in the last few years and the Lancaster store offered a particularly limited range and would probably look to shop elsewhere.

Too much floor space given to food, poor choice of clothing as a result. Pity the staff are so filled with their own self importance
