I’ve been here several times now. Always great service. Not sure where the bad reviews come from but maybe the staff have changed. I’d recommend is and the prices aren’t that expensive unless you drink heavily.

Wonderful dinner. Macaroni and cheese absolutely stunning, actually the best in my life. My friends burgers were also delicious. Nice, cosy atmosphere and good service. We will definitely come back for more. Thanks

On the spur of the moment, I booked a table for two at Marco's on Tuesday the 24th April. We were thoroughly looking forward to the experience and first impressions did not disappoint, as the decor is both modern and stylish. It took a minute or so to be greeted once we entered, but our waitress (Tia, if i remember correctly) was both enthusiastic and attentive. The menu is attractively worded and presented; we had initially planned on eating only a main course each but were tempted to try the potted duck along with the beetroot, goat's cheese and walnut salad. Neither was inspiring but nor were they unpleasant. Unfortunately, I now have to talk about the steaks, which are the cause of my leaving my first ever Google review. We ordered a rare fillet steak with peppercorn and brandy sauce and a medium-rare rib-eye with sautéed mushrooms along with the wilted spinach and horseradish side dish. My first reaction upon cutting into the steak was excitement as it was perfectly cooked and very tender. However to my horror, upon tasting the first bite, I realised it had been covered with some kind of sauce or glaze which was so overpowering that I couldn't taste the steak itself - the star of the dish! This was the case with both the fillet and the rib-eye. Upon calling the waitress over, we were told that it was Marco's special barbecue glaze. This is neither mentioned on the menu nor were we advised verbally that this was the standard. Not only would I never order a fillet steak with a barbecue glaze, but I question the logic of offering sauces on the side if this is the standard. Perhaps more advanced palettes than mine would appreciate the combination of barbecue and béarnaise. That said, it was dealt with fantastically by Tia who apologised and said that the steaks can be prepared without the glaze, and that they would be happy to replace them for us. We accepted the offer and I distinctly remember commenting that I could not wait to taste the steak without the glaze as it had been so perfectly cooked the first time. This was the point at which a slightly disappointing start became a frankly insulting experience. When the steak came back my first impression was that they looked almost exactly the same as the ones that had left the table. The first bite was not the tender and rare mouthful I had been so looking forward to, but a grey, desiccated and depressing chunk that took a significant amount of willpower to even swallow. Were I a betting man, I would give good odds that we received the same steaks, with the glaze washed or wiped off and thrown back in the pan for a minute to reheat them. This was the last straw and we sent the dishes back without eating a further bite. I cannot comment on the wilted spinach and horseradish side, as by that point our courage had deserted us and we asked to finish our wine and have the bill. The manager on duty came over to discuss the experience with us and sincerely apologised. Like Tia, she was faultless and clearly took a great deal of pride in her job. The most galling fact of all came last. As we went to leave, I walked to the pass and asked to speak to the chef, hoping to provide him with the feedback I now write here. I was informed by a more junior member of the kitchen that the chef had left in the time it took us to send the steaks back, finish our wine and pay our bill, so i offered him the feedback instead. His first response, and the one that will stay in my head every time I consider returning: "I was on starters tonight". That, I feel, is a perfect example of the evident lack of collective pride in the product that the kitchen puts out. We left feeling disappointed and sad, more than anything because a lack of pride in the food is the last thing anyone would expect from a Marco Pierre White restaurant.

Very disappointed. Second time we visited, 1st time service was very good and food fine. Second time not impressed with the food or service. Too long between courses and the food was a poor standard. Overall bill £400 - expect more for this price tag. Shall not be returning- paying for the name only not the quality that should go with it
