The university is a joke. I am a current student and cannot wait to rid my life of this useless organisation. There is little to no reply when trying to communicate with staff, many show very little care about student wellbeing and the university is completely confusing in the way it projects itself and its values. I cannot wait to leave. I know many people from previous years who have dropped out because the uni is that bad and gives no help whatsoever. Do not be fooled by the empty promises they may advertise. They are lying to your face. Stay well clear.
The University is among the UK's leading Universities for study and research. It has a large campus with outstanding facilities providing students with high-quality courses and a great environment to improve their skills and capabilities. Additionally, there is great academic and personal support from lecturers and tutors. Recently, The Manchester Metropolitan University has been awarded a Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education. In 2022, the University's world-class new Institute of Sport which is currently under construction will also be ready. Manchester Metropolitan University is among the best European Universities.
They care so little about the students wellbeing and what they struggle with. They care more about reducing the work that they have to deal with, which directly influences the students
Seems like a dodgy selection procedure for staff. Even for senior positions as Cardiology professor, a generic copy and paste reply is given. Better to avoid it.
I am an MMU alumni returning to education in after many years, which is a struggle in itself. The awards department won’t provide me with my transcript which was requested in November, it’s now February So I’m looking at missing my application deadlines. They ignore emails and are completely dismissive. This policy is absolutely discriminatory and makes life as a mature student much harder than it already is.
Overall I had quite a positive experience. They put a lot of money into the presentation and infrastructure of their university and honestly it was a joy to study there. In terms of the course... it's like most courses these days. The information was outdated and did not take into account for modern day practices which I feel leaves graduates at a disadvantage when they graduate. For £9k a year it was worth it for the experience at the time but I'm not sure the information you receive is worth that money. It's sad that you need to jump through this 'qualification loop' to secure a job but also I wouldn't take back my experience because I enjoyed learning in a nicely refurbished university in a fast paced city. I tried to change my course at the end of my first year and the learning advisor was very unhelpful at the time. The customer service was pretty woeful and to this day I feel sorry for myself because I wasn't given the proper support I needed at the time. Hopefully they've done some restructuring with their staff since then.
I had a poor experience as a foundation year student at MMU. When I attempted to make a formal complaint my course leader showed little interest/concern. I had an awful experience with one lecturer that marked my assignment down significantly due to my attendance in a specific class. After reading other student's assignments that received significantly higher grades it was apparent this was due to a personal agenda. This teacher was also my tutor and I could not imagine discussing any personal issues with him. The teacher in question would continuously spit everywhere, swear throughout lessons and take students phones away if it was simply on their table. The whole experience was rather unprofessional. Luckily I was placed with a different more supportive tutor. My new tutor was lovely and helped me with my personal statement when I transferred to a different university. The majority of assignments I never received feedback on and had no idea how to improve or my strong points. Most students talked throughout lectures and showed no interest in group work, eventually, I stopped attending due to how poor the experience was. When I mentioned I was unhappy and was considering transferring university I was told I would not receive a certificate for this year and it would be best for me to stay. Luckily I am now at a much better university academically and receive a higher level of support.
I have lived in the Manchester university neighbourhood for 4 years. Have become increasing disappointed as the uni-students cause more and more nuisance around and the uni management has failed to offer any useful help. The students would party any time day or night, even during lockdown, making loud thundering music from inside their house or their backyards. They fall drunk and vomit in the street. They take drugs and leave laughing gas bottles everywhere. They throw beer bottles into our gardens, fly-tip garbage or unwanted furniture on the roads, or even pee against our walls. I and many of my neighbours are very angry about these irresponsible behaviours. We know they are uni-students because when the universities are closed for holidays or lockdown we are all fine and quiet. I gave MMU 1*, but I think my worse-affected neighbours would give only 0 . We urge the university management to promptly regulate the student behaviours and restore peace for the neighbourhood.
Just awful! Technology didn’t work, the moodle technology was unstructured, there was no clear guidance, group work wasn’t properly enforced. I have studied a previous online master degree and my experience was much better. Furthermore, I was told they would refund me in 14 days and now it’s another 14 days plus another 3 days. The communication has been awful and inconsistent. They have an excuse for everything. I would not recommend their online program to anyone. There are much better options out there.
Extremely bad experience from the Uni! Admission teams are irresponsible! They didn't reply to our mails or didn't give any update on time. Lost so much time due to their untimely actions and had to prefer another uni.
