Story

Manchester Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial co-operative serving people who live or work in the city of Manchester, Rochdale, Bury Trafford, High Peak & Tameside.
You might not have heard of credit unions before but in many parts of the world, including Ireland, the USA and New Zealand, they are very important and successful financial institutions.
Credit unions exist solely to provide affordable financial services to their members. In our case we offer savings, loans and a whole range of other financial services.
We are run by our members, for our members. Our range of innovative financial products includes ethical savings, affordable loans, Christmas club accounts to name but a few. All these services are supported by the excellent service of a dedicated, well-trained staff.
Manchester Credit Union started as Beswick and Openshaw Credit Union in 1991 and was known as East Manchester Credit Union until February 2007.
There are over 330 credit unions affiliated to the Association of British of Credit Unions (ABCUL) throughout England, Scotland and Wales.
In the UK some 520,000 members have recognised the value of credit unions and have savings over £400 million with their credit unions. There are thousands employed in the sector and many more thousands are volunteers.

Been in today, and the staff was really helpful and kind. I have been a member for years now and have saved money doing so. It’s a brilliant service. Thank you, Manchester credit union.

For all the people saying that they never answer the phone. I called 4 times today and they answered within the space of 20 seconds. Very fast service I would recommend

I've previously taken out a few loans, but never with a credit union. When dealing MCU, you are treated as a human, not just another number. The service I received was ten times better than any high street bank or lender. It was excellent.  My loan was quickly approved within a week with a fair interest rate. I was fortunate to have Zatoon as my loan officer, who listened to my queries and actioned any requests.  I intend to become a saver with MCU for some time now as they seem trustworthy and fair. Plus, they have been a pleasure to deal with - I highly recommend them!!

Very helpful staff quick and easy if you are in trouble

Don’t waste ur time ringin coz they never answer the phone absolutely shocking servis

They never answer the phone, spend hours and hours trying to get through, bring back local branches, the one I used to deal with was friendly and helpful. The way its run now is useless

Discriminatory, Bias and unhelpful, it never used to be this way. More help for those with benefits, single mothers, etc, definitely not for people who are ill and or have underlying health conditions. Denied me a loan during covid, even though they advertised they were doing what they can to help people because of it. Not even £100.00 could I get from the North Union to get groceries and necessities. Very dehumanising service, a particular member of staff and her manager, hideous, heartless human beings. Other people I recommended service to were able to get loans because of the above and other obvious things,  they heavily discriminate. Look down on people, and pick and choose who they help. There not a Union for the people, however other staff members were brilliant, unfortunately as usual the ones below. Decision makers nasty as, I should hope they never find themselves ill and in need of money for basic essentials. North MCU are the worst.

I have never met such an unhappy and rude person as the staff member at Rochdale credit union don't bother enquiring she's rude every single time. Also worked in the Bury branch when it was open.

I know that there are limited staff at the moment, however this service has been very poor in trying to communicate with anyone verbally, especially when they don't get back to you for days after leaving a message, this has been my case since before the virus..Needs to be addressed

The chances of me winning the euromillions is greater than Manchester credit union answering their phone. Been ringing for a week and got no luck. Phone is working perfectly well.  I'll just try my luck on euromillions.
