Nice space - a modern street food market in the heart of Peckham. Small menu so perfect for sharing we ordered almost everything. Everything was delicious but the fish was a little too smelly for our liking. Highly recommend for a cheap and cheerful meal
I came across Mambow from Chef Chris Pople’s Instagram who really liked their chicken sando, but I have a thing for Laksa so that was what I picked from the menu today. I enjoyed it quite a lot, the soup is less coconut-y and less creamy than the soup I had in other Malaysian restaurants around London, but that’s not necessary a bad thing at all, it just means the fragrance of the spices come through more distinctively and less oily than usual. I’d have preferred the two prawns to have a firmer texture they were a tiny bit mushy, but I can easily overlook that because the rest of great. I tasted a bite of the braised pork belly and it had great flavour. The Sambal was a bit too spicy for me but not a problem since it’s served on the side so you could adjust how much you want. Based on photos shared by other reviewers it seems they change their menu quite frequently, so I’d recommend going there soon so you get to try these two dishes we had today as they were nice!
Super tasty Malaysian food and nice wine. We sat at the bar it was a bit of a squeeze but I enjoyed watching the kitchen. Good service!
Authentic Malaysian food - simple and well done. Cendol was a refreshing highlight during a warm day!
Great laid back restaurant with really tasty food. All dishes were great. The Pasembur and Lor Bak especially. The latter is like a Malaysian sausage roll
Maybe the best meal I've had south of the river? All of the dishes tasted different to each other, cooked, seasoned and spiced to perfection. Reasonably priced and they even threw in some pickles on the house. Couldn't recommend enough!Food: 5/5
Incredible, authentic, creative & delicious Malaysian food. The hainan chicken sando is great!
Delicious meal with fantastic food that was full of flavour. No complaints about portion size - each dish was easily shared between two and we found the experience great value. Brilliant experience and we’ve already made plans to come back again.
Food was wonderful, some of the best we’ve had lately. But service was very poor and soured the experience overall. Staff ignored us when we arrived, speaking to each other right in front of us for a couple of minutes. The server was overwhelmed and didn’t seem sure how to use the pay system. We were missing items and brought one wrong dish. When I went up to ask for the correct dish, the server pointed to the menu Malaysian names and implied I had mixed them up, when I had actually ordered the dishes in English. They refused to acknowledge they made a mistake and when I asked for our dish to be replaced they said they couldn’t as they had too many bookings that evening. The place was understaffed and stressed, and people were doing their best. But simple staff training around acknowledging guests/customer always right would have gone a long way in improving our experience.
I had high hopes for Mambow but was left very disappointed with my experience last night. There's nothing wrong with a small menu, but when two of the dishes have run out this was before 7pm, and you only find out about one of those AFTER you've already ordered and paid then have to swap, it means there was very limited options. Then the portion sizes came out and were unbelievably small - the fish was especially tiny. A really small cut from what looked like a mackerel fillet, soaked in sauce. The chicken was one small leg and thigh, also soaked in a similar tasting sauce. Terrible value for money, and everything tasted roughly the same. Only positive was the staff, who were friendly and replaced a drink after accidentally spilling a tiny bit.
