Historical place for London as it is the first ever French patisserie in the capital. It's been here since 1871 and despite the changes it still holds a very independent and bohemian look with a very untidy hall, a few tables, crammed cakes and pastries. Take it as it comes as it is not a fine patisserie but the look will deceive you for the sweet food served is simple, delicate and low in sugar compared to English pastries, but still flavoursome. Worth stopping.
Cute old-fashioned bakery, the owner was very nice and welcoming. They are popular for their scones, which are delicious. They also offer interesting selection of cakes and other baked goods which I look forward to try on my next visit.Food: 5/5
Really busy little cafe. Lots of options and beautiful cakes. I had an almond croissant... it was huge. Abit disappointing as it was very dense almost cake like not flaky and airy like a croissant. Would definitely come back for a scone or cake though. Staff were lovely and friendly and love the old tea room style atmosphere. Pricey but would come back.
Got the scones and cheesecake. Cheesecake has a jelly like texture and it wasn’t the taste that I was expecting. Scones are really good, must-try menu when you go there. Will comeback for the sconesFood: 4/5
My husband and I visited twice in a row. We loved the scones with cream/jam and the ham & cheese croissants. They provide more than enough cream and jam to smother them onto your scones! The workers there were very helpful and kind.Food: 5/5
Cute place. Sat outdoors. The street was calm and it was nice to sit there. I had english breakfast tea with scone, clotted cream and jam. The scone was heated at serving, but it was not that heated. I've had better scones elsewhere in London. This one felt kinda dry. But the clotted cream was really good so this along with jam made the experience much better.
Scone was good, but nothing extra ordinary. Service was unwelcoming to rude by the aged lady. More focused on the touristee crowd of china town. We went early in the morning so area was not crowded, but at other time I can think of how busy it would get on the footpath, so can't sit out. Old lady kept warning guests to take care of their bags and to not keep the phones on the table. Enough for one time as it has high number of decemt reviews, just to find that they are from non-londeners.
Quirky old style tea room, abit of a squeeze especially if it’s busy and you have to queue to ask for your order before you sit down. My sponge and cream layered fruit slice was light and delightful. Service was friendly but someone was told off for obstructing the entrance in the queue by a waiter.Food: 4/5
Excellent! Came across Maison Bertaux through a Google search and based on the good reviews, I decided to visit. It was so good that I went back again - beyond my expectations. Not like the mass produced chain cakes. Their cakes were absolutely amazing in texture and taste. It paired perfectly with the loose tea!Food: 5/5
Situated in the buzzing parts within Soho, and nearing China Town, this establishment stands proudly in the area serving local regulars and tourists who come all the way to visit alike. There are a wide range of sweet and savoury pastries on offer daily, but they tend to sell out fast! I had the Apple and Almond tart and it was maybe the most value for money cake I’ve had in central London. It was so big and I could barely finish it! The tea was served in a pot with strainer and the really friendly staff also served a pot of hot water without us requesting. It was a bonus for good service. Unfortunately by the time I was there the scone were all sold out, I would really like to go back for that soon.
