Magazine Hotel

Story

The Magazine Hotel is one of the oldest pubs on the Wirral, with its building dating back to 1759, and still maintains much of its original character and charm. With our unique snugs and open fireplace, we always offer a warm welcome to our many customers. We are one of only a handful of pubs in the area still serving draught Bass, which attracts customers from near and far. With the introduction of guest ales in recent years, it has led to two awards from CAMRA, we have recently been awarded CAMRA Wirral Pub of the Season for Summer 2013 and were shortlisted for Pub of the Year for Wirral in 2010.

Set in an elevated position within the Magazines Conservation Area, the Magazine Hotel boasts a unique viewpoint of the River Mersey and New Brighton promenade, which allows day trippers and walkers to take full advantage of all that the pub has to offer. Set within a quiet residential area, there is a strong community feel which extends into the overall ambience of the pub and allows customers old and new to feel very much at home. With its extensive beer garden offering plenty of seating areas in which to enjoy the stunning views, it is a literal hotspot on a warm summer day. Situated to the rear of the pub beer garden, the Magazine Bowling Club, first established in 1853 can be found, and has always maintained a strong affiliation with the pub.

Second time coming in the last fortnight and both times have been brilliant. The food is outstanding, fresh, flavourful & affordable. The mixed grill was amazing the quality of the meat was noticeable throughout, I had a mix 3 & all were amazing special mention for the goats cheese bonbons & salt and pepper homemade chips. Friendly accommodating staff, thank you again.
Quite secluded, not many people know this pub exists except for locals, you won't Spot it unless you're strolling from New Brighton to Seacombe. Good selection of real ales and the food is reasonably priced. I recommend the curry, it was very nice.Food: 5/5
Great food...! Lovely feeling and relaxing when ever we come .Great beer garden with a brilliant view.Food: 5/5
Enjoyed a meal here with my missus. The meal was absolutely delicious. I liked the decors showing the history of the building and historic events surrounding the area. Parking can be a little difficult, as it's off street parking. It's definitely worth the visit! We look forward to our next visit real soon.Food: 5/5
Had a lovely Sunday lunch with my husband and mother in law today. We go for lunch every Sunday and have been to many places across Wirral but the food, service and atmosphere was by far the best we've experienced. Booked again next week. Well done chef and all the staffFood: 5/5
We didn't eat, so our 5 stars are based solely on the quality of the food we saw going out. The Magazine is famous for being a 'Bass' pub and it certainly didn't disappoint. As designated driver, I could only have the one, but er indoors consumed my share as well. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and we'll certainly be going back, quite probably with a bunch of other members of The Honourable Order of Bass Drinkers.
An Original classic English pub with a newer great outdoor space.Service: 5/5
Great pub with a hidden beer garden around the back. No complaints.Food: 5/5
I've walked past this pub on many occasion, from walking along the New Brighton promenade, you can gaze up and see this Pub, anyway we decided to go in and see what the fuss was about, well as soon as we entered the door, Lady approaches us and no sooner as we opened our mouths we was seated in the back room away from the hussle and bussel,my wife ordered the steak with pepper corn sauce,I ordered the homemade lasagne and chips, my wife said it was the best Pepper corn sauce she had encountered, and as for me ,it was definitely a real reminder of home made cooking, all in all am definitely coming back here and would happily recommend a visit Parking: They have a free car park that's basically attacked to the pub Kid-friendliness: Yes kids are allowed in the pub
Little gem this place. Perfectly positioned for a stroll alongside the river, gorgeous home cooked food, dog friendly, good value, genuinely nice staff who were warm, friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be going back.
