This post is more for the Ferry River Trail and the woods just south of this park, though the park is nice as well. This whole are is beautiful to visit as the sun is coming up over the river.
First visit: so very slippery I fell over and twisted my hip. We won't be returning till the summer as completely waterlogged.
Lovely area to explore, a bit of everything - meadows, trees, woods, streams, children's play areas, views and wildlife, all running alongside a railway line.
Wonderful nature reserve well managed by Colchester Borough Council. It consists of a huge field 10 acres? and this is divided into different areas, though there are no fences, the areas are only separated by footpaths. They plant hedging trees in some areas hawthorn/blackthorn; in others they cut the grass regularly to keep it suitable for walking/picnicking, and others they let grow long for about 3 years. It's perfect for a relaxing walk/run and for just hanging around on/picnicking, and is very popular with dog walkers. The paths lead into Wivenhoe Woods, and just over a stile you cross the railway line to the Wivenhoe Trail, which follows the River Colne from Colchester to Brightlingsea. It's a great place to get out into nature and enjoy a bit of fresh air, and get some exercise. There is a children's play park and, since Covid, adult exercise equipment has been added. Marvellous!
Beautiful place, no toilets but lots of trees
