The Millennium Green, Holton-St-Mary, is truly a hidden gem, seemingly kept secret by the locals. I only found its whereabouts from using Google Maps for my review of adjacent Holton-St-Mary church. It's so closeby that the churchyard overlooks the Millennium Green, but the space just appears to be part of the land adjoining the neighbouring cottage. There's no signage to indicate that it's a public place until you arrive at the main gate, well hidden along a public footpath. I've stopped at the church & the tiny green space beside its car park, on so many occasions, while cycling or hiking. But I never realised that there was this separate green space, so for more than 2 decades missed the opportunity to enter. It's a shame that it's so well concealed because it's such a delightful area where an obvious amount of care & creativity have been contributed by locals. Some of these Millennium Greens are no more than a rectangle of mown grass. Holton-St-Mary's Millennium Green is truly unique, with not only picnic tables & benches, but tree stump sculpture, birdboxes, & an insect hibernarium. As well as the natural beauty of the space, it also overlooks Holton-St-Mary's quaint church. Somewhere well worth discovering in this scenic outskirt of Constable Country.
