Might singlehandedly be one of my new favourite Sunday lunch finds. Food was fantastic - especially loved the rhubarb jelly, custard foam and crumble topping - great comforting flavours in a new style. But the feel and ambiance in the pub itself is great - you could easily sit there all afternoon on a lazy Sunday. This place is definitely worth the trip!

Delicious food and great service. Cozy atmosphere, good selection of food and wine. But awkward to drive to but worth it.

Heard a lot about this place, supposedly highly rated. Parking on road not easy. Food ok but nothing special. Serving staff polite and helpful, however bar stuff unfriendly verging on outright rudeness. First and last time for us.

Thanks to The Good Food Guide for this wonderful pub. It has some guest rooms and does wonderful food. The village of Hinton St George, where it is located, is as picture perfect as any village you will ever have hoped to visit. Houses are mainly built of the local Ham stone, a beautiful yellow stone and thatch is almost de rigueur, Now to the food, but before that a little story. We had booked and being proper Londoners we don't own a car so started the day, after voting in the local elections, by picking up a hire car. The car was a monstrous Volvo XC60, and we were the first people to hire it. Unfortunately for us we were a little late getting away, then stopped for coffee and finally ran into the inevitable traffic jam near Stonehenge. Having booked for 13:00 it was very clear we were going to be late so a series of calls ensued with the final one being used for us to place our order for food over the phone as there was a possibility that we would arrive after the kitchen closed at 14:00. It is so easy to forget that outside London with fewer customers plenty of pubs and restaurants close between lunch and dinner, you have been warned. Food was delightful with a starter of locally grown asparagus with a soft egg and beautiful wild garlic mayonnaise. Mains were a burger for my partner and grilled mackerel for myself. Both dishes were executed with a steady hand and the chips were as good as any we have had with that wonderful combination of soft and fluffy flesh and beautiful crisp exterior. Dessert was blackcurrant jelly with cheesecake cream, shortbread and a sorbet. We took their advice and paired it with their dessert wine choice so I was able to have a sip, due to my afternoon driving stint that was to come, so my wife drank most of the Kir Royale while I tucked into the fabulous sweet confection. Other good points are that the pub is very dog-friendly; important for us as we were travelling with our two Labradors, and has two lovely garden areas so you can dine al fresco when weather is suitable. Staff were charming. Overall an absolutely splendid experience that we can't wait to repeat.
