While a view of a carpark and Poundland might not sound enticing, the charm of the hotel and friendliness of the staff more than compensated! We were visiting the area to catch up with friends and family so the location was perfect. We had a lovely large room with a four poster bed. However the standout of our visit was Craig. He was so welcoming and nothing was a problem. He also cooked our bacon and eggs to perfection!
The Room was just what we needed and well equipped with all basic necessities. The staff were super friendly and helpful and the food was absolutely amazing and great value highly reccomend the steak and fish and chips. The location was perfect for us with local shopping and visiting our friends, there are also a lot of bars, cafes and take aways nearby. Thank you team George
We didnt actually stay in the hotel, but we enjoyed a lovely evening meal at The George Hotel. The food was excellent, and we had very good bar service from Jake. The chef/manager was also very pleasant and welcoming. We would definitely eat there again.Service: 5/5
The radiator in our room was broken so we couldn't turn the heat down and it was so so hot, it was very late at night so didn't want to disturb reception I am sure they would have fixed it if they knew. The staff were fab very attentive and helpful. Breakfast was OK, nothing to write home about but fast service and nice egg.
Stayed for a night ... Find your own parking, pleasant reception, with rooms away from bar across the yard with own entrance. Comfy warm clean room. Unhurried traditional breakfast.Rooms: 5/5
It's next to the bus stop so we use it for a loo stop when we're doing our Saturday Community bus service. They're always obliging so long as you ask first!. It looks welcoming and comfortable. We can't drink while on duty of course!. One day I'll find out!Service: 5/5

Overall a very nice pub/hotel, room was very nice even if situated next to a Lidl, breakfast in the morning was lovely, slightly overshadowed by smoke alarm going off at 6.30am, manager asked if I had used a deodorant!! I told her that there would be no point in me doing that as I was about to have a shower and would have been a total waste. She was polite enough and again, lovely breakfast. Rooms: Room was cosy and spacious and excellent en suite. Nearby activities: Not a great deal to do really, no nightlife etc in area Food & drinks: Great friendly pub atmosphere, do not serve an evening meal on Monday or Tuesday evening when I stayed nearest Weatherspoon 7.5 miles away, chip shop over the road however. Breakfast was delicious.
Staff I met were excellent and service is everything. Breakfast was good and included in the price. It’s not a 4 star hotel. It’s a ‘local’ town hotel now part of a small chain. Some repairs are being carried out on the roof then I’m informed they will be looking at updating other areas. The bedrooms were clean with excellently clean bedspreads and bathroom. It’s a place to sleep. For me… a tiny bit expensive, but for the hotel; maybe not enough with all the costs of today, such as electricity prices. Also not a lot of alternatives in the town. It is a small former market town, more of a throughway town really! Would I stay here again… YES. Be aware that parking is close by, but not included in the price. Check out the Lidl parking area for prices. No long term, free daytime parking nearby available either. Nearby activities: Rugby, Swimming, local Independent Shops, Ham Hill Country Park not too far away plus other amazing walking areas. Walkability: It’s in the middle of a small town. Very walkable from anywhere in town. Food & drinks: It also has a pub/food bar as part of the hotel which I understand to be of good quality. The breakfast was good.
Warm welcome, nice, comfortable, very clean room with big bathroom. Freshly cooked breakfast. Friendly staff. Hotel is central in delightful little old market town. Perfect location to explore surrounding areas. Thank you to all the staff at the George Hotel. Sally
