Used to come here a lot when I was a kid, it’s gone downhill since then, not only do you now have to bring your own padlocks for the lockers, they’ve also made the changing rooms mixed sex. As a young, autistic girl the changing room situation caused me to almost have a panic attack as next door to me were a group of lads messing about, one of his friends had flung his swimming shorts over into someone else’s cubicle and they though it was mine. They were threatening to put their hand under to retrieve them after I had clearly stated it was my towel I was standing on Here’s proof:
1. Water freezing. 2. Jacuzzi rammed. 3. Slides jammed. 4. No cafe there used to be a cafe! 5. You need your own padlock for the lockers!! Seriously or leave your phone/car keys as collateral!! 6. 2 slides. They are pretty good but not enough to justify another visit....
Place needs a complete overhaul " grand central " is a title it doesn't deserve. Always dirty no hand sanitizers in dispensers. Old rusty gym equipment. Dirty changing room floors. Probably one of the worst gyms I have used. It needs a serious overhaul of new equipment and never see a cleaner there unhygienic!
I came maybe 10 times before with baby one back in 2021 and baby pool nice warm. Then came back with baby two last year. Today it was a pure waste of money and Sunday afternoon. It was so freezing!! My 3.5 year old was shivering after 2 minutes, I didn’t even stay 2 minutes inside with my 12 month old. I was watching a mum with her blue-coloured tiny baby … well we have work next week and no real time to stay home with sick kids. Changing room smelled of pee extremely.
Lots to do for kids like the slides, jacuzzi and splash pool. Massive main pool. Changing rooms are grim and always smell. Pool is always really cold. The baby splash pool is usually warm but was quite cold when I took my 3month old a few weeks back.
My guide to surviving a swim at Grand Central 1. take a padlock, no £1 trolley coins anymore, it isn`t practical or safe to have to leave belongings on the pool side. 2. wear flipflops the floor and changing room are gross, crisps, sanitary wrappers, nappies 3. be prepared to see nudity! some of the changing room locks don`t work 4. Don`t worry about drying your hair, as the dryers don`t work 5. Don`t be alarmed if you see a mouse, as myself and another fellow reviewer have reported them, probably after the crisps!! 6. Consider to have a shower at home, there are only 3 depressing cubicles . The family section has 4 but only work at a trickle if more than one in use. 7. Be prepared for very busy swim lanes early evening and people getting swim rage! After being a regular user for 20 years I have decided I can no longer accept the declining standards at Grand Central. I hope senior management can address the multitude of issues reported in these reviews and seek funds for re-investment,
Very tired and dated, in need of an overhaul. Even my 4 year old complained about how dirty the floor is in the changing rooms. There are not enough changing rooms, locks on the doors are not fit for purpose and the lockers where you need to put a £ in often have peoples stuff in but they've not paid so you end up having nowhere to put your things u less you have brought a padlock. If I could change to an alternative location for beginners badge one, I would. This swimming pool is grim.
Life Leisure Stockport Centre is a fantastic hub for fitness and recreation. The state-of-the-art facilities, friendly staff, and diverse range of activities make it a top-notch destination. Whether you're into workouts, swimming, or group classes, this center has it all. A vibrant atmosphere and well-maintained facilities make every visit a pleasure. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a fulfilling and active lifestyle. Unfortunately they charge a lot for swimming lessons which is more than all inclusive membership and even with that they don't give full membership benefits.
The staff were lovely and kind and the pool itself was relatively clean and spacious but the changing rooms were not clean. I went for a late session around 9pm so I was probably seeing them at their worst but there was hair and bandaids and just misc stuff around many of the cubicles, as well as a used pad. I also found myself being repeatedly sprayed with cleaning chemicals under the cubicle despite me saying "there's someone in here" to which I'm guessing they just didn't realise but still not great. Bathrooms also stank. I was glad I went with a friend because I think all that coupled with shouting parents in the space of about 15 mins probably would've dampened my mood if I were alone.
It is so disappointing that such a central location pool has the most disgusting changing rooms I have ever seen. I have been going on a fairly regular basis for months now because it is the only pool I can get to and swimming is an important form of excercise for me, but every time, I find the changing rooms depressing. There are clumps of hair in the showers, rubbish in the lockers and cubicles, wet muddy filth all over the floor. I really want to take my little one swimming but I'm put off taking him because he'll probably get ill from all the germs. It is obvious that the changing rooms are only very lightly "cleaned" a couple of times a day. I was in the shower there and could overhear the staff joking about which of them didn't want to clean the shower next door to mine because it had rubbish on the floor and muddy sludgy water all over it. If the facilities are becoming too disgusting for the staff to even want to approach, then I really don't know how much emphasis the management places on cleanliness. I think the council need to look into it because it's just not fair on the people paying to go here. Also, there are only two hairdryers in the whole place and neither of them properly work. The staff don't seem bothered about keeping any sort of system in place when the pool is over-crowded and no one can properly swim lengths. Their advice is to all swim in one massive circle which means that everyone is held up by each other.
