Visited the Newhaven Lidl on 14/02 around 5pm and unfortunately had a very poor experience.nnAt the checkout the cashier rushed the transaction and began scanning the next customer’s shopping while I was still packing, pushing their items down towards me which left me flustered and I believe I was not even given a receipt.nnMore concerningly, items from this shop were not fit for consumption. The raspberries I opened the next day were covered in white mould despite being refrigerated immediately. Today I opened the wholemeal pitta breads from the same purchase and every one of them was mouldy, and the use-by date on the packet was 10/02 – meaning they were already 4 days out of date when sold. I had already eaten one before noticing.nnI have contacted Lidl Customer Care as this is a food safety concern, not just a quality issue. I hope the store checks its stock more carefully to prevent this happening to other customers.
Quite a relatively smaller shop than other Lidl, meaning it is very messy. Only 4 tills and no self checkout so quite long queues. Produce is as expected from any Lidl store, with a good variety at good prices.
Unless your skint avoid this place like the plague. If your family eat fresh produce on the day, it will suffice…just!nThe queues at any time after 830 are just laughable. They constantly baulk at an express checkout and consistently leave customers with no social distancing in place, in long, exposed queues.nThe staff are as miserable as any I have encountered.nThe manager is pleasant enough until needing to work outside his remit and be friendly…not a kind, more like arrogant approach to customer complaints.nShop is hardly ever tidy and most foodstuffs handled way too much but probably due to the lack of good produce on show.nSo if you need the prices to be competitive then it’s okay, anything else then Sainsbury and Morrison are only a short distance away.
The shop is too small for how busy it gets. As such, its usually very messey with boxes everywhere and items in the wrong place. Staff try their best but ultimately are up against it. Simply not suitable for the large catchment area. Products as as you would expect. Decent, no frills with the occasional bargain and quality item.
Pastries area smell so delicious every time I step in. Super cheap and tasty.nI recommend the hot prepared food section. The food would be sold out before lunch.
