We thought a space dedicated to music in Leeds, where you could come to chat, learn, listen, buy, look and just immerse yourself in local music would be amazing. We saw it as a natural extension of the things that are going on in different venues, pubs and rehearsal rooms in little pockets all over the city each night.
But we wanted to try and bring these disparate groups and activities together and provide a focal point for local music as a tangible, day-time presence.
The Hub will be here for almost any music fix you might be looking for:
- A cafe/social area (for general geekery and chat), with free WiFi available
- Regular workshops, master classes, seminars, groups and other events
- Music tuition (from active local musicians)
- A shop area with local band merchandise, CDs, gig tickets and stocking local music magazines/fanzines and similar
- Exhibitions of local music artwork, posters, photography etc
- A CD archive of local music (which is ever expanding and now stretches back quite a way!)
- Acoustic sets and other live music
- Poster space, wanted/selling corkboards and registers for local teachers/session musicians/function players
Plus loads of other things that will fall into place over the next few months as we really get going and then start to expand. We promise that there will always be cake, too (cake oils the wheels, we think!).
We're really excited to be moving into our own premises in the next few weeks, so keep an eye out for announcements of the opening on here as well as our website and @leedsmusichub on Twitter.
We want as many Leeds musicians and music lovers involved and contributing as humanly possible, so we’d be pleased to hear from any or all of you!
