Leeds Kirkgate Market

Story

Leeds Kirkgate Market is a market in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England located on Vicar Lane. It is the largest covered market in Europe. There are currently 800 stalls which attract over 100,000 visitors a weekLocationThe markets are situated with their front facing onto Vicar Lane and the southern face onto Kirkgate. To the east is Leeds City bus station, while to the north is an open car park, which will become part of the Eastgate Quarters, should that development take place. To the south of the open market is the markets multi-storey car park operated by National Car Parks (NCP). From across Vicar Lane, the markets are connected to Briggate via the Victoria Quarter.AccessLocal and regional buses heading out of the city centre, as well as long-distance National Express coaches, stop at Leeds City bus station, to the rear of the complex. First Leeds buses stop at various points on the bus-box of which Vicar Lane is a part. The Vicar Lane and Markets car park are situated close-by. The formerly proposed Leeds Supertram and Leeds Trolleybus schemes included a stop to serve both the markets and the bus station, however neither scheme succeeded in securing central government funding.

Great food hall with scrumptious options. Swift and easy. Thank you for doing a great job during Covid.
While most of the stores are closed, the meat, fish and veg stores are all open and look busy. Same outside, only the fruit and veg stalls were open. You could buy a tea or coffee and some food and enjoy it in the cool but dry interior of the market. Perfect for me. I understand Monday to Thursday it is quieter.
Still open for business throughout lock down with a wide variety of fresh produce and tasty takeaways. Would recommend the Karpaty bakery for sweet treats.
Very poor these days. Very limited amount of shops around. I don't just mean due to coronavirus, just generally empty. Plenty of fish stalls though
The best place for fresh fruits, veggies, fish and meat. Great deals on carpets, phone and everything in between. Did I mention the street food? Better than at the restaurant! I don't like it! I LOVE IT!!!
The butchers and the fish mongers are just great also the the other traders quite diverse and versatile.
All the expected High Quality produce that easily under cuts All supermarket prices, usual top Yorkshire customer service. Worth a change if you haven't visited for a while. The 'events hall' has wonderful 'pop up' street food & artisan products to try, Love it!
It's a shame what Leeds city council have done to Leeds market, it's a beautiful place that used to be absolutely booming with shops. The rents have been so hiked that people can no longer afford to have their stalls in here, all because LCC want to develop the inside market into accommodation for financial gain.
