We came in for lunch today as we got married here 8 years ago and thought it would be a nice place for lunch. The menu is very small, but we chose a burger and fries each me and the little one had beef and my wife chicken. The chicken burger was fine, fries were well cooked and seasoned. The beef burgers however we both ordered without cheese, yet came with it, and we're both really dry/overcooked. We had been waiting quite some time for them to come even though it was very quiet in there and didn't see any point in sending them back. I doubt we'll be back unless invited to an event.
We enjoyed our stay and would gladly visit again. Our very clean room was one of the cheaper ones but it was spacious and well appointed. We enjoyed a quick drink in the bar and found the prices very reasonable and the young man serving us polite, friendly and helpful. There was a well cooked breakfast made the next morning using good quality ingredients. It was provided with table service in a pleasant dining room. We usually read reviews before booking, but on this occasion we're glad we didn't because they would have put us off and we would not have stayed. As it happens, although we booked in a hurry and then read the reviews, leaving us dreading our visit, happily our expectations were confounded. We are at a loss to recognise the hotel from some of the negative comments, which have baffled us. It is true, as others have said, that the hotel asks for a £200 deposit but, to be fair, this unusual policy is stated on the hotel's website and the deposit was refunded in full within a few hours of us checking out. This is a charming hotel with attentive, hardworking staff, offering a good service.
I stayed here whilst visiting Liverpool as it was a lot cheaper than staying in Liverpool and because it seemed more interesting. I really liked it and would do the same again. The rooms I stayed in 32 and 43 were clean, warm, comfortable, well decorated and quiet. The hotel is full of interesting rooms and corners, plus history on the building, the lighthouse and the ship named after the building. Breakfast was nothing special but it was ok and the server very friendly. But top marks go to the customer service from Dale on reception; would give him ten stars if that was possible. Recommended.
On a tour, not staying although I had visited years ago for a business event. It has lovely views and includes the interior decorations from The Star Chamber, which is enough to excite anyone with an interest in the monarchy and the law. It is a stunning room, with charming, fresh views of green and sky. Open spaces and a cozy bar to enjoy too.
A few bad points with the room but that is just the one I stayed in. The food was okay but not a great deal of choices, it's either fish and chips, curry or a burger. The first thoughts on the hotel were great however once you've stayed a few nights you soon realise that it could be better than it is. I was directed to eat in the bar area which has limited choices however there is a separate dining area near reception and I'm not sure if the food variety is better there or not. Some crumbling walls/mouldy walls around the place where the rooms are. Again this is just near the room I stayed in as I never explored further. Rooms: Rooms are a bit basic, the room I stayed in had no main light but had 3 lamps within the room. The window did open but it was more hassle than it was worth trying to close it. Some mould in the bathroom more specifically the ceiling I guess this was due to the fan that is in there not being powerful enough to draw the moisture out.
I would seriously consider other options given the extremely poor service we received. Despite us raising our complaints directly with the front of house and emailing to follow up on our complaint, we literally have received radio silence. Something I strongly recommend you take into consideration before booking a stay or an event. If the hotel management is unwilling to even respond or acknowledge complaints, where does that really leave you in terms of ensuring everything is right for you? I check-in at 14:45, giving the staff ample opportunity to inquire if we were attending any of the scheduled functions that evening. Something other hotels do as standard. Unfortunately, despite this, we were assigned a room situated directly above one of the function areas. The noise level in this room was unacceptable, with the music so loud that the walls were vibrating. We immediately brought this issue to the attention of the reception. While we were informed, there were no alternative rooms available, a contradiction to the availability we observed online. After a frustrating 30-minute wait in reception, we were finally relocated to a different room, that they didn't have! The reception staff member assured us the functions ‘functions’ implying multiple gatherings would conclude by midnight. Given the late hour, we reluctantly accepted this explanation and opted to stay in the new room, which offered a slight improvement in noise level. However, to our further disappointment, one function did not conclude at the promised time. The music continued until 01:00, and it even grew progressively louder towards the night's end. Considering the premium price we paid for the room you would expect far better. The next morning, we addressed these issues with the on-duty front-of-house staff, who advised they were aware of the issues. However we were offered minimal engagement and he seemed bewildered by us raising our complaint. Given this lack of engagement and lack of complaints procedure or knowledge of that process, we proposed leaving our contact details and requesting a follow-up. This was agreed upon once the manager had been consulted. Despite multiple efforts to follow up we are yet to receive a formal response acknowledging the problems as per the expectation that hotel set and we agreed upon. While we understand venues need to host events, the lack of service has left us disappointed. As mentioned earlier, give serious consideration before entrusting Leasowe Castle Hotel with any serious event. A little on the room. Both rooms we had were tired and dated. And both suffered from noise disturbance. Overall the facilities were substandard, and the shower was very poor and not really fit for purpose; combined with the underwhelming service we received throughout our stay, 100% puts Leasowe Castle Hotel on the blacklist. The hotel will also take a £200 deposit on check in, something they don't mention so be aware as not all travelers may have the ability to put that money down.
Superior Sea View Room 1004 for two adults, for two nights, 27th and 28th June 2024, cost £290.00 Unfortunately this was an unmitigated disaster. On checking in we were told that there were two alternatives if we wished to have dinner in the hotel - the Brasserie or Wreckers Bar. We were advised to book if we wished to eat in the Brasserie, but that we could eat in Wreckers whenever we wished without booking. We were also given a '10% off' voucher which could be used in either restaurant. So it's fair to say we were encouraged to eat in the hotel. On the first evening we went down to Wreckers at 1900. There were three staff behind the bar, none of whom seemed inclined to want to speak with us. We sat down, and after ten minutes of receiving no attention at all my husband went and collected two menus from the bar. We chose our food and my husband went back to the bar to order, only to be told that the kitchens were closed because there was a function - a high school prom - on that evening and the chef was cooking for that. So neither restaurant was open and there was no room service either. On asking about this at reception, and enquiring as to why we hadn't been informed at check-in we were told that hotel staff didn't know about the closure at that time . . . Surely the prom had been booked well in advance and was expected? In which case shouldn't there have been other arrangements made for hotel guests to eat? When we asked reception staff where else we could eat we were told "in the area" . . . Not particularly helpful! We asked if we could bring a takeaway into the hotel and were told this would be ok. There was no offer to organise this for us, which in my opinion was the least that should have been done given the circumstances. Had we been informed a check-in we could have made alternative arrangements to eat. Having managed to eat necessitating a journey into Wallasey village we settled down into our room I would like to say here that the room was comfortable and spotlessly clean, and the extra pillows I asked for were there only for a band or disco to start up directly under our room! This got steadily louder and louder until the room was virtually vibrating. My husband went down to reception to ask what time this would be going on to. He was told "oh around 2330 or a bit later". He went down again around 15 minutes later to ask if we could change rooms. It should be pointed out here that staff seemed to be in the function room and had to be tracked down. He was then informed that there was another prom the following night - so, no food again presumably and more noise. At this point we decided that we were leaving. We received a visit from the night porter who said he could offer us an alternative room, but in all honesty I didn't want to stay in a hotel where individual guests appeared to be clearly little more than a nuisance to staff. The night porter was the only member of staff who seemed concerned about the circumstances and who tried to offer some practical help. He was also very polite and courteous. In addition to the above, other minor niggles were - the first room key we were given didn't work, necessitating a trip back to reception to get another there was no information pack in the room, so again a trip to reception to ask for the wi-fi code, location of breakfast, etc the reading light over one side of the bed didn't work Five emails sent so far inviting the hotel to address the issues - not even an acknowledgement received. Rooms: Clean, but rather tired and dated Nearby activities: Golf course Safety: N/A Walkability: Merseyrail Station 10 - 15 minutes walk Food & drinks: None available Noteworthy details: Lack of interest from staff towards guests
Though the room we booked way back a few months ago was adequate - it had a ugly side view on to the back of the cold rooms of the bar with a noisy cold room which switched on and off; on the one side; so we focused on the better view of the golf course and sea on the other. Shower was very small but adequate and bedroom itself worked well. The most disappointing aspect of our two night stay was the food we had at the Wreckers pub on our last night. Not only was the menu so limited to burgers and toasted sandwiches - we have never had such a disappointing and expensive meal as we that. The burgers were overcooked and dry; the food was served cold and they brought an incorrect food order to the table. So our special evening out was ruined by this aspect. Food & drinks: Don’t eat there!
Came for sunday lunch quite early so easily got a nice table in the almost empty dining room but which quickly filled up. The food was great, nice tender meat, good choice of vegetables etc. The reason for marking down is the rudeness of the staff. It took a good while to get anyone's attention when we wanted to order more drinks with one member of staff ignoring us when we finally caught their eye and clearly indicating we'd like some help, but they chose to not acknowledge or come to the table for several minutes. Then they were not able to provide the coffee as requested as the machine hadn't been turned on yet? At lunchtime?! Do they not serve breakfast? It's a lovely location though a little tired in some areas and they staff need to be more attentive. I wouldn't rush back.
We were attending the nearby Upton Viking Festival and booked this hotel because it looked lovely and was slightly cheaper than the local Premier Inn. It should be even cheaper. Arrived to find a wedding in progress Congratulations to the bride and groom, but cars parked haphazardly and non biodegradable glitter hearts all over the floor and walls outside. Finally checked in be aware they want to take an extra £200 deposit when you check in for breakage insurance, on a room which costs less than that, and while they take the money instantly its 10 days to get back. Was put on the 3rd floor at the rear side of the hotel lift out of order and had to carry heavy bags up awkward stairs. Room looked recently decorated was small the bathroom was almost as big as the actual room. Wanted food but had to wait until 7:30pm as the wedding guests were all in the public bar until their room was ready lucky I overheard the time being told to the bride. Thought about room service which is listed on the checkin sheet you're given but it says to use the menu in the room......no menu. Went to the bar and sat down, tables were sticky and if felt like you weren't welcome 3 staff all stood around talking, checked the menu and went elsewhere as the selection was poor and overpriced. When we got back got ready for bed, wedding in full swing 3 floors below and the music was loud enough it may as well had been in the room this carried on until at least 1:30am but before this had to call reception. The bed had stained sheets and only 1 sheet in the bed, no mattress protector, no fitted sheet just one folded sheet, then had to wait for fresh sheets and had to make the bed ourselves. The beds were small and uncomfortable with weird feeling mattress toppers on them to try and disguise the feel of the springs. The room was warm not even a fan but couldn't have the windows open as the wedding music got even louder. The shower was terrible, when it eventually got warm the water kept randomly stopping and for long periods so it took ages to get clean. Went to use the hair dryer to find it was last Safety Tested in 2022 while is not illegal in a hotel it should he done at least every year so didn't bother. Breakfast is in the Brasserire room, nice selection of fruit, toast, cereal and costco pastries, the cooked breakfast was lovely and only spoiled by the manager coming in standing in the middle of the room and announcing loudly he needed help and immediately as they were setting up for another event, three more steps and he could have quietly spoken to the person in charge of the room, but events it appears are more important than actual hotel guests having an undisturbed meal. Won't be going back again as for the price charged it too much for the level of comfort and the amount of actual sleep we could get.
