I was there for a dinner with my girlfriend and my parents and the entire experience was absolutely amazing! The staff was very pleasant and helpful, the food was delicious and the whole atmosphere of the dinner was reflected on these two points. I hadn't have such a good time at dinner in a long time. I can only recommend.
Went there tonight with my boyfriend and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the prawn puri, green chilli lamb and peshwari naan. The flavours were awesome and the lamb was super succulent. Portions sizes were definitely value for money, left the restaurant feeling really full! The staff are one of a kind, we were served by 'chris brown' and 'sean paul'- super friendly, very attentive and offered a great customer service. We also had a gourmet society card which gave us a discount off our bill - usually with these things you don't expect as good a service but I can happily say I couldn't ask for better. Will definitely visit again!
I expected more after reading all the positive feedback, but my food was bland. I had the veggie bhuna, and I could immediately see when it was brough out that the sauce was watery. It didn't taste like much. My husband enjoyed his butter chicken though, even though the sauce tasted mostly like coconut. The staff is very friendly and do their best to make you come back - however, we are not returning as there are better Indian food in London.
I visit Lal Qila at least once a week. That's how much my mates and I love this place! Lunch time menu is very student-friendly in terms of pricing. Overall, love the food, love the price, and love the excellent service of their staffs. Also love the location, just minutes away from my uni
Great friendly service. Family run business for over 30 years. Portions & price reasonable. Cocoanut rice was tasty addition to our main dishes. Keema naan was a little different tomato sauce base inside. Overall, very satisfied, I'll be back?
Oily food, chipped plates, and zero ambiance no music, just the humming of the air con unit above my head! They kindly added nearly 15% service charge automatically which was completely undeserved - the waiter forgot half our drink order as he didn't write it down 2 drinks, took our used cutlery off our finished starter plates so we could reuse them, never gave us any napkins, and proceeded to drop the entire neighbouring tables food all over the floor just as we were about to leave. Left completely disappointed.
Ok, so this place has lots of good reviews and some scathing ones so I've decided I'll review it as I eat here. Yes, I'm a sad git but I'm dining alone in London whilst down here on business so it's something to keep me busy. Arrived and greeted at the door by friendly smiling waiter, shown to a table for one that has to be one of the most depressing things to ask for and then quickly upgraded to a nicer, better positioned table. Drink order taken, large kingfisher! On to a winner already. Waiter recommends the lamb, how they do the lamb is always a true gauge of a good Indian restaurant. I opt for the lamb garlic chilli masala - pitty my colleagues tomorrow! Also gone for pilau rice and a side of sag aloo. Also worth noting that they have beef dishes on the menu - I always view that as a worrying sign. Let's see how this goes... Wow, food arrives very quickly, almost too quickly to make me think they can cook it that fast. So the lamb is tender, not melt in the mouth tender but certainly not chewy abd tough. The sauce is ok, nothing much to it in terms of flavour or spice. The heat comes from the whole chillis in there and there are big chunks of garlic. The side dish is ok. Again not mind blowing flavours but nothing offensive, nice texture to the potatoes. So I'm getting full now, what can I say. Its ok. Not mind blowing, it's not a meal I'll crave to come back for but also not terrible. Just a bit bland I suppose. Service and stuff ok. You'll probably find something better if you do your research, I didn't.
Friendly atmosphere, great banter with the boys and very nice food. If you're a bunch of ruddy rugby lads looking for a decent curry after a massive lash up then this is the best place in Central London!
Fantastic service, great food, would definitely recommend and come again. The staff made us feel really welcome and gave an excellent service. One waiter in particular was very friendly and smiley!
Dear tourists and Londoners: PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE FOR INDIAN FOOD! I visited Lal Qila yesterday due to the few negative comments I doubted the one from "Mo J" because I'm an idiot and the vast amount of positive comments and the prominent positioning of this restaurant. This was my experience when entered the restaurant: i The man at the entrance told me: "Credit card acceptance only for an amount greater than 15 pounds" ii Mango Lassi - this is only mango juice with a lot added sugar. No yoghurt in it at all. Just took few zips. iii Samosa starter - two domino sized pieces with chinese chili-sauce. Tasted ok. iv Butter Chicken: I know butter chicken dishes from indian restaurants all over the world and cook it myself at home. I have never seen a yellow not red colored, thick sauce with coconut in it. This is by far the worst version I have ever experienced in my life. v Rice has to be paid extra. The rice pilau was heated up in the microwave and did not taste fresh and was still hard at some points. vi I did not finished my dish and drink, in fact I left more than 50% on the plate as it did not taste at all. BTW: I male, 29yrs was really hungry! vii Bill or THE BIG SURPRISE: Seriously it must be Sanskrit what they wrote onto the invoice and I don't know what to tell my boss what each price means but it adds up to 20.65 pounds for the above menu. Although I only had 4 items another position shows up with sth "%" 3.50 pounds and when asked about it the waiter said "Service, Service". Its also not the VAT as the prices should be displayed with VAT included in the menu. Anybody interested I will send a copy of that invoice. viii In fact one of the 4 guys was really kind which is why I gave 1 star. To me my short planned evening was destroyed by that "event" and led me to write my first ever comment. My friends: London has many good Indian Restaurants that are recommendable - the Lal Qila is unfortunately not one of them.
