Story

Marco the director of Mamma’s Romantica welcomes you to Rayleigh’s oldest independent serving Italian Restaurant. Established in 1970 this family run Italian restaurant’s motto of “ Let Our Family Look After Yours” is complemented by our continuous 5 Star Health & Hygiene Award. Our Grade II listed building is situated in the charming historic High Street, overlooked by Holy Trinity Church with its 15th Century tower and delightful grounds.

Mamma’s Romantica is renowned for its warm welcome and reasonably priced a La Carte Menu, alongside its competitive Set Menus starting at £12.95 and Sunday Lunch choices with home-made Yorkshire puddings from £10.95. This 60 seated restaurant is the perfect venue for couples, families and parties who are looking for that traditional Italian ambiance.

Silver serviced by experienced waiting staff, this ideal setting caters for birthdays, weddings and private hire. As advertised on our website we offer exclusive Themed Cabaret Nights which includes a three course meal at £24.95 p.p. An extensive wine list is complemented by our house Pinot Grigio, Merlot and Rose at 13.50 a bottle, or by the glass.

Why not start off with an aperitif of chilled sparkling Prosecco or an ice cold bottle of Peroni Nastro Azzurro.

Our menu offers a diverse range of authentic rustic Italian dishes, using locally sourced fresh produce. We take pride in serving our famously known Mussels Meniere and King Prawns Florida as well as our homemade Italian pie, just like Mama used to make! Try one of our specialities of the house Grilled Whole Rack of English Lamb served with a honey, rosemary and mint jus, or Spaghetti Marinara, all served with a free selection of seasonal vegetables.

Any speciality orders such as Lobster or Dover Sole can be placed with us but require 48 hours’ notice. Our Head Chef prides himself on and specialises in fresh home-made desserts, the perfect ending to an Italian culinary experience. Why not finish off with a traditionally chilled Limoncello or Amaretto liqueur.

We look forward to serving you.

1st time visiting here ,, should have done it a long time ago they have been here since 1969 took my mum for her birthday so glad we did the staff are really friendly and attentive made it very special the food was excellent, remembered to take a picture half way through eating so apologise for that but hopefully you can see very good quantities all really well cooked the starters were delicious and large gladvi shared mine with mum will be booking again for our anniversary in a couple of weeks, thanks for a really lovely evening guys see you soon
My husband and I went there last night for our Wedding Anniversary dinner. We both ordered Prawns and monkfish with tagliatelle. Delicious combination of flavours. We were very welcomed and great hosts. The staff are amazingly friendly, helpful and professional. Everything is incredibly clear. Great selection of music A definitely return.
Perfectly fine Italian, the restaurant is in a lovely old building, but inside reminded me more of the 1990s. Unless it's full of dining guests, there's not a lot of atmosphere in the vast open space. The food is basic Italian food, with most of the dishes being easily make at home. There's all the typical pizzas and pasta on offer, nothing I was particularly excited about. The portions are all a decent size and tasted ok. Sadly, I think the Italian chain restaurants do nicer food which I hate to say as I'd much prefer to support local businesses.
Simply the best Italian in Rayleigh. I know chains have their place, but nothing takes the place of an authentic, Italian owned a run restaurant. The food is amazing and plentiful. The service is excellent. The house red wine is so lovely. it's all you need. Wouldn't go anywhere else for an Italian in this area.
Very tasty perfectly seasoned food. Very fairly priced, and portions were large. Waiting staff are friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed our evening and will be returning.Food: 5/5
I've been here quite a few times over the years. Always great service and lovely friendly staff. Food was piping hot. Nothing was too much trouble. Prices are reasonable.Food: 5/5

We booked a table at La Romantica Restaurant in Rayleigh High Street for our Christmas day dinner. Obviously with the popularity of this restaurant we had to book several months in advance. On entering the restaurant we were greeted with that lovely Italian warmth and hospitality, a certain something special, that only the very best restaurants seem to be able to achieve. We were shown to our table and offered drinks. Considering the fact that every table was taken, it didnt feel over occupied or claustrophobic. The food we ordered and it's arrival was amazingly quick, boiling hot and the flavour was so good I can't even put it into words. Portion sizes are extremely generous. We don't consider ourselves as food experts, but honestly the flavours in this restaurant really are magnificent, even simple vegetables seem to taste a 100 times better. There was no rushing us to order our desserts or coffees and baring in mind that all the staff were working on Christmas day, they all seemed happy, attentive and looked like they actually enjoyed what they were doing. I genuinely can't praise this place, it's staff and the chef's high enough. Thanks to all the staff, the Chefs etc for a really wonderful Christmas experience, we will definitely be back soon. I'd give this place a rating of 10 if I could but I can only give it 5 stars but it's honestly worth more. Please see my pictures, thanks for reading
Lovely little Italian restaurant in Rayleigh, food is very good, staff are friendly and helpful, we went on a Saturday evening and it was very busy but didn't have to wait to long for our meal, and there was a singer later on to get everyone in the mood for a good time, would definitely recommendFood: 5/5
Awesome visit. First time. Just googled local Italian and went. So so glad that we did. Party of six. Starters and mains. All dishes as good or better than we've ever had in any other place. We're all vegetarians. Chef was happy to alter some dishes to suit. Leaving town. So no chance to go again soon. But would if I could.
