Our garden room With patio was nice for two days. I appreciated the air conditioning and Pam at reception. My husband enjoyed the pool area. Our dinner and cooked breakfast in the restaurant was first rate. Actually the evening meal was quite special and I told Chef Andy so. However, the menu is confusing with 2 or 3 courses and strange descriptions. Also the wait staff, though nice in the dining room, needs to be better trained and aware of the food they have. They should be proud of what they are serving as it is quite good. The breakfast staff seems a bit unhappy, not sure why.
Had a fantastic massage yesterday with Julia, just what I needed after a hard week at work. From the lovely welcome at reception to the glass of water offered at the end, it was a relaxing, professional and brilliant experience. Julia is a credit to their team.Rooms: 5/5
My family stayed at Kingsmills Hotel for four nights in August 2024. There were four of us in total, two adults and two teenagers. We had three rooms in total and spent nearly £5000 on our stay, including drinks and food. It didn't start or end well. Upon check-in in the main building, I was charged the accommodation fee for all three rooms in full, which was fine. One of our rooms was in a separate building above the Spa and when we went to this room with our teenager, we were told that the room had not been paid for, so they insisted I paid another £1079, which I did. When I later checked the paperwork, it transpired that I had already paid for that room and so had been overcharged by £1079. When I explained this, they made it difficult for me to get a refund. I had paid using Google Pay with my phone and Google Pay generates a one-time virtual card number for each transaction for security reasons. When they did agree I was due a refund of £1079, they insisted I show them a physical card containing the number used for the transaction. I explained that wasn't possible as that wasn't how Google Pay works. After a battle and a meeting with 'the Manager' they finally managed to refund the overcharge. Two of the rooms were 'Garden Rooms'. The location is nice but despite advertising the rooms as having 'air conditioning', the rooms were still hot. After talking to another 'manager' she explained that it isn't actually air conditioning but 'comfort cooling' which is different and inferior. The water pressure of the shower was very low. The shower head is large and needs a higher pressure in order to function correctly. The bath towels in the room were small and of a poor quality. Housekeeping was poor. We used the kettle in the room each morning to make a cup of tea but the cups were not replaced with clean ones. We also had wine from room service and the wine glasses were not taken away or replaced with clean ones. We had to go to reception each time to ask for them to be replaced. The wine list in the Whisky Bar is very poor and only contains around five wines in total across red, white and rosé, even if you order by the bottle. I have never seen such a small wine list anywhere. The staff in the Whisky Bar are nice but completely over-stretched and cannot cope with the workload. It was a battle to order drinks in the lounge as they were so busy and stressed. Finished drinks were not cleared away, nor were we asked if we wanted to order more. Each time we had to fight to get service. The hotel boasts having a mobile app in which it claims that guests can order room service but it did not work and gave an error asking me to contact reception. Reception did not know what the issue was and didn't seem interested in trying to diagnose the issue so they could fix it. The hotel is overrun with American guests from coach parties and large golfing groups. As an English family who were staying there on our own, we felt overlooked and an inconvenience at times. This was disappointing given that we spent nearly £5000 on our stay and presumably the guests from the coach parties were paying a heavily reduced fee. The checkout time is 11am but on the last day, at 9.20am, housekeeping were shouting at us, "Come on, come on, we have a wedding". This was rude and unacceptable. We were perfectly entitled to stay until 11am had we so wished. The hotel claims to be a 4-star hotel but it didn't feel like it and we would not recommend it to others based upon our experience.
Pros- Good customer service. Fairly quick service in restaurant/bar. Cons - Breakfast was lacking, not a ton of options. Fairly bland food. Main issue, they have a ton of weddings here. The first night of our 2 night stay during our honeymoon. The wedding went on until almost 2am. If you're looking to book here, avoid the weekends, since the hotel doesn't seem to care about keeping the rest of the guests awake when they have weddings there. Or ensure that you are on the opposite end of the property so you won't be disturbed. Not worth the $350-400/night price tag.
Daughters wedding, great venue. Staff were fantastic. Bar staff went above and beyond everyone well mannered an professional. Never stayed so only a four for rooms. Saw one room which was clean tidy family room. No comment on comfort of bed. But if anything like rest of hotel it will be sound.Rooms: 4/5
Great location and walkable to the downtown area. Room and bathroom were clean and well appointed. Food in the restaurant and bar were above average. Breakfast was very good with a varied assortment of hot and cold items. Breakfast was noted to begin at 7am but we found that on both mornings they were a bit late in opening.Rooms: 5/5
This was a very nice hotel. I gave the room only 4 stars because it was a bit dated. One lamp did not work and no washcloths provided. I'm guessing this is the norm in Scotland, but how do I use the body wash with no washcloth or scrunggie? Another norm in Scotland is the very narrow toilet seats. Felt like I'm sitting on a rail and hurt the backs of my thighs. Otherwise, this was a nice stay for a couple of days. Staff was extremely pleasant both at the front desk and restaurant. The bar area is a lot of fun in the afternoon and the bartender introduced me to the French Martini! I've now had it several times around the country and at home here in the US and no one can quite make it like he did. What's your secret? Location is not bad, but the walk to town will take a good 20-30 minutes. Not bad, but when it's cold and rainy, not a pleasant walk. I would recommend this hotel.
4 adults for lunch on a Sunday. Somewhat disappointed with the choices on the lunch menu. Evening dinner menu has a wider selection Food wasn’t very hot. While staff were very friendly, polite and helpful, prompts were need re bread, wine etc. Have eaten at the Kingsmills on several occasions previously but just felt this lunch was “nothing to write home” about.
I booked online for a table for four and also confirmed by email. There was no record of our booking at the restaurant reception when we arrived. However they had plenty of tables available. Food was good but service not so. Ordered coffee to finish and after paying waited for an age it but it didn't arrive. Then asked and it eventually arrived but no apology.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The staff were wonderful! Very professional and helpful as always. Extra care and attention was paid to the dietery requirements of my husband who is gluten intolerant. I cannot recommend the restaurant highly enough.
