Rubbish College It's been about 2 or 3 years now since I had an open day at that college. It was a horrific experience as the college were not well organised and didn't have a good impression. I was trying to find the room which has the staff that talk about the course that I was interested in however, one of the tutors approached me on that day and shouted their head off and said why am I wondering about when I was actually trying to find the room number. At that point, I knew this was not the right college for me especially that I have a disability which would make me struggle to cope. As I was looking around and leaving, there are just Asian boys and girls who are messing around, vaping, swearing, and making out inside the college and outside on their premises. I was absolutely disgusted with the profession of the staff and the students. I wanted to write the review today as I never got a chance to write it and that the enrollment day has approached for the students. My advice is to not go to this college as it would take your child to the wrong path and they would not have the right support and education offered at this college. Thank you for taking your time and reading this.
Joseph Chamberlain gets a lot of unfair criticism. The Tutors and Library Staff are some of the nicest people you will meet, the Teachers have such a good bond with Students and want the best for them even if they don't teach them. The facilities are really useful and the College genuinely wants to know how to improve for the benefit of Staff and students. People who don't even attend the college make assumptions and pass it off as fact, but Ofsted thinking we're Outstanding says a lot.
I was a student here a few years ago. I posted a negative review of this college but it was removed for unknown reasons. I will start with the tutors. Most tutors came across disorganised and dispassionate about the subjects they taught. During the lesson it was common for most tutors to go off-topic. Whilst a few tutors were good at their jobs, most were not. I would recommend some of the tutors to get therapy...because I have seen tutors bring their personal problems into the class which is so unprofessional and embarrassing. Next the students. The students here come from a South Asian/Muslim background. They hold strong cultural views and form these tribal packs. It is difficult to socialise with these students if you are not part of that background. If you stand out, it is likely they will pounce on you like a pack of hyenas. There is also a gang culture problem. Some of these students are disruptive in class and I have seen them bully/harass other students. The good news is that the college is well built and the library is well equipped. However, the college has a serious OCD problem concerning building maintenance. I understand it needs to be well maintained but there is no need to go crazy. I heard a tutor scream as though the building was on fire when he caught a student chewing gum. I have been to five colleges to study various long/short courses and I have never seen the staff go this crazy. They care more about the building than the students. Also they spend so much money on those silly plasma television's plastered all over the building. What a waste of money. It is just a silly marketing ploy to show off to visitors/potential students and make them go all flabbergasted. There was also this cranky student finance officer. I think she was on her periods which might explain her attitude problem. Lots of students complained about her. I wouldn't be surprised if she was fired. Anyway that's my review. Okay the above may come across as a rant but there is an element of truth to it. It's my experience of this dreadful college.
Terrible college, most teachers there get personal with the students, they are lazy and sometimes have no clue as to what they are doing. They don't allow or prioritize for hard working students into the college, whereas they let in the not so passionate ones. One of the reasons why its a flawed college. The students there are immature, they have a cultural thing going on, where if not fitting into it, then they make you feel uncomfortable and go ballistic on you. There's no improvement everyday to help and prepare for university, going to that college is like being in school again.
I've been a student in this college for more than 3 years and I find some of the reviews quite ridiculous tbh. The college offers decent facilities and most teachers definitely put in more than they have to. Overall a Good college, one of the better options.
Ahsan Al-Haadee here. My years at JCC were genuinely some of the best of my life. Yes it is inner-city Birmingham and so yes there will always be individuals you don't need to associate yourself with, but from the staff to the general student population to the facilities, this place was home for the best years of my youth.
Joseph college is the worst college. My son completed his level 2 in IT but never got accepted for level 3. I was on a low income and my son never got a bursary or a free bus pass. My son now studies at a different college he gets a free bus pass and is so much better
Joseph Chamberlin College provides a wonderful environment which is conductive to learning. The teaching staff and directors of studies are dedicated to create a thriving learning community for students enabling them to achieve their true potential. This entails all the extra curricular activites which the college provides to cater for the needs of students outside of academic success and also the amazing academic mentors who are tailored to aid students in specific subjects rather than giving general advice. Thus the college rightly deserves its title of outstanding.
Guys don't go I will regret it, the atmosphere reaks of depression and anxiety and its filled with bullies, one time a girl was in the toilet crying and kinda screaming/shouting and they every girl ran out saying she was a jin, only one girl stayed hope that tells you something oh the girl had some personal issues going on . I was bullied because a girl taught i looked nicer than her, hope that teaches you something keep in mind that I never got in a fight physically or verbally in my whole life except with my sister's for stealing cholthes etc. I moved so fast I warned you don't go their not to mention, the to mention its also people dying for stabbings one for mistaken identity, now think about that that could be you. It looks nice form the outside but trust me once you get in you will regret it soo bad.
I don't even have the words to describe this college throughout my first year as a A's student I have felt bullied and cornered by a few members of staff funny that I couldn't complain because of course complaining to a teacher about another teacher is a sin as the teacher is always right oh lovely because the teacher is god sent and us students are always to blame Throughout my entire time here I have felt like such a failure because of the teachers constant taunts and sarcasm I remember one teacher saying " get out of my face" what a beautiful way to treat a student who was just minding there own business. Been constantly reminded how I am never going to get into university because I am just so thick.one day I cried my eyes out and one teacher just laughed I cant stress enough how crap this college is because of the teachers mind you the dinner ladies are more kinder. SO IF ANYONE IS APPLYING TAKE MY WORD UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR SELF RESPECT THROWN AWAY DO NOT GO THERE! HAD THE WORST EXPERIANCE OF MY LIFE - left college today so hurt I hope the guilt stays with them teachers how made me feel so bad about myself I now have to have several counselling sessions thanks a lot!
