The Ivy Bush Royal Hotel

Story

Commanding a spectacular position at the gateway to the Golden West, the Ivy Bush Royal has long welcomed leisure and business guests in a considerable comfort and style.
Once a favoured retreat for Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton, the hotel has been sympathetically modernised to blend its old world charm with modern facilities.

Wow... don't eat at the restaurant unless you like microwave meals. They got caught out... my first meal was colder than the fridge.. so they re did it and then my main came out... the sides were cold again!!!!. I was fuming.. I started eating the chilli and there were hot and cold spots all the way through the food. It made me feel so sick knowing how poor the food is there.
The Ivy Bush Hotel were very lucky to have great staff. Those that were working were very conscientious considering the shortage of staff. We were a party of five and enjoyed lunch. Our friend stayed overnight in a suite of rooms and we enjoyed a glass of prosecco before saying our farewells. I think hospitality have had a very hard time during the recession and staff shortages must make life difficult for the hard working staff. They have my sympathy.
Stayed at the hotel with my husband for two nights. Rooms seemed a lot more dated than the images on the website. Staff on the reception desk were really pleasant, which is a lot more than can be said for one of the ladies clearing the dishes during breakfast. We stood waiting, unsure whether we needed to wait to be told where to sit and when we saw her and asked her, she just mumbled that we could sit anywhere. We weren’t asked if we’d been there before, shown where anything was or offered tea or coffee, however, there was a nice young male that brought tea/coffee when my husband approached him on both mornings. I’ve given 4 stars for the pleasant staff, however, I would only give the lady with the ponytail one as I saw her scowl at people leaving the breakfast table. Location was good as it is a short walk to the shops.
So disappointed. Booked as a stop after getting off the ferry and although we're able to check in after midnight we wished we carried on driving. On arrival there was no one at reception, although we were able to walk straight in! Eventually we were checked in. Told breakfast was 7.30 am til 9 and left to find our oom in a maze of corridors and stairs and mini flights of steps.nThe room was really old, tired, dirty and unappealing. Who hangs pictures with water stains along the bottom, pictures of close ups of headboards? All the lampshades were askew, cleaning was awful tops of plug sockets had a really thick layer of grime and the bathroom grout was in urgent need of redoing.nAdd to the lack of mattress, duvet and pillow protectors the disgusting stain mattress made us further regret our visit.nThe room was hot and stuffy but at least the holey, moth eaten curtains allowed movement of air through!nThe only drinking water from the bathroom tap was either hot or warm?? No cold water came through.nWould definitely recommend giving this a miss but like when you say good morning to the receptionist and she ignores you
Oh dear oh dear! Bit like a previous person...nice greeting at reception, just a muffled 'put your Registration in the parking monitor' . We had come for a meal so then spent next few minutes trying to find where we could meet a member of restaurant staff...eventually finding one and then being directed to a table which was by an open door so that the smokers could get outside if needed. Luckily we were advised we could sit almost anywhere else to eat the place was empty apart from two coachloads of victims who had been imprisoned there for the night on their trip around West Wales. Order at the bar were the instructions then given.nnStarters...prawn cocktail..old British favourite, somewhat lackingnMains..chicken burger..filling for someone with a small appetite.nChargrilled chicken..OK.. expensive for what it wasnGammon. Nice portion and we'll cookednDesserts...struggled to find them on the plate...nEnded up going to Mcdonalds to get a McFlurry to fill that extra dessert spot.nnSorry, but this place needs a good hard look at itself...the bar service was great, the rest of it was dire. Food quality was so so, not worth the money and will not be returning
