The Ivy Bush is a great hotel to stay in. We use it regularly when we go on cycling trips around west Wales. The staff are helpful and friendly. The breakfast is included and is really good. The price of accommodation is reasonable. The rooms are clean and have ensuite facilities. There's free WiFi.nThere is a TV in each room however the reception is a bit dodgy depending on which room you are in! But overall, it's a great hotel.
The staff at this hotel are super friendly and helpful couldn't ask for more in that regard. I am very disappointed with my recent stay at this hotel, especially given that I had previously had a positive experience here.nnWe made our booking over the phone after being advised by a staff member that it would be cheaper. During the call, I very clearly explained that my mother is disabled and specifically asked if a family room was available on a lower floor. I was told there were none, but reassured that the hotel had a lift and that access would not be an issue. Trusting this information, we proceeded to book two rooms.nnHowever, we never received a confirmation email. I had to call twice to request this, and even then, no confirmation was ever sent.nnUpon arrival, we discovered that the distance from the lift to our rooms was quite long and, more importantly, required navigating two flights of stairs—something I had explicitly said would not be possible for my mother. When we raised this issue with staff, we were told that no alternative rooms were available. Despite repeatedly explaining the situation and the prior assurances we were given, no immediate solution was offered.nnI had travelled approximately 250 miles from Leicester for a one-day visit to attend a religious ceremony at Skanda Vale Temple, so time was already tight. Still, the situation was handled with little urgency or empathy. I asked to speak with the manager, who was contacted on his day off. Unfortunately, he was quite rude and dismissive, focusing more on defending his staff than listening to the issue or trying to resolve it. When I suggested they help us find accommodation at another hotel, he said that was “not their job” and that he would only address the matter the following day.nnAfter considerable back and forth—and significant delay—we were eventually offered a room closer to the entrance. However, even this room required navigating a flight of stairs and only had a bathtub, with no walk-in shower, which again was not suitable given my mother’s condition.nnThe following morning only added to the disappointment. I went to reception to ask if I could get some warm milk for my 2-year-old son and was simply told no, and that I should wait for the breakfast service to open. This lack of basic customer care was surprising and frustrating.nnOverall, this experience was far below expectations. The lack of clear communication, failure to accommodate a disability despite prior notice, and poor customer service—especially from management—made what should have been a straightforward stay extremely stressful. Sadly, this visit has completely changed my opinion of the hotel, and I do not plan to return.
Its 4.5 stars really, Rooms are decent size for the price but felt dated. It was clean though and for one night we stayed in we couldnt complain. Beds could be more comfortable but had worse for higher price. Breakfast felt slightly understaffed but 2 waiteress did an amazing job anyway and eventhough rushed, acted on queries and were really nice. Location is great so went out to eat as bar/restaurant felt a bit too quiet. Definietly not a bad choice for the price.
Stayed a couple of times now, when visiting relatives, or for Old Boys Rugby lunches.nnThis time we stayed with our dog, who was made very welcome. I suspect it might not be the same in winter, as you have to have breakfast outside on their terrace but we visited for a couple of days during a heatwave, so outdoor eating was fine & plenty of shade for the dog. We also had an interesting room with a little balcony which was useful.nnThe room had been modernised quite a bit but still a couple of minor issues, which we passed on to the staff. I hope they continue to improve as it is a little tired but they are spending a lot on it to spruce it up a bit. As a special Carmarthen hotel, it deserves it.nnThe staff are lovely - polite and nothing is too much trouble.
