Islington Farmers Market
"The first farmers' market in London & one of the best. Shop in the fresh air and join us every Sunday, come rain or shine, at the Penton Street end of Chapel Market for Islington Farmers' Market. Discover fresh, seasonal produce straight from farms, fishing boats, bakeries, and plant nurseries. You'll find organic seasonal vegetables, rare breed meats, dry-cured bacon, sausages, great pies, handmade cakes, and exceptional bread including the best sourdough. 100% recommended!!! Amazing prices and higher quality, I felt like doing groceries in the countryside You can find all kinds of fresh veggies and fruit, handmade pasta, delicious bakery and more.
Excellent fresh produce at this market. Love the vegetable and fruit at Perry Court Farm near Penton Street; there is always a long line, but it moves fast. The cauliflowers are especially good; some of the carrots look like they've just been pulled out of the dirt that morning. Near it is a gourmet bread and cakes stall that sells bread sticks with too, too many giant olives – great for olive lovers. Don’t forget the yummy hamburgers and sausages at the Parson’s Nose; can’t miss the smell.
Nice farmers market. Good to go for some organic and quality products on Sunday morning. You also got couple of hot food to order. Can be busy at noon but good option to get your veg and fruits at decent price. Most of the sellers are permanent.
Love this market - yes it’s more expensive but I am happy to support local growers and we all have to realise that their is no such thing as cheap food someone is paying somewhere. I like that I can buy just the amount I need so nothing goes to waste. Buying and eating what’s in season means I am more likely to vary what I eat and discover new foods which is fun.
Farmers Market that takes place every Sunday. I'm not sure what time it all starts at but it goes on until at least the early afternoon. it's a typical farmers market although the stallholders don't look particularly like farmers. Each stall sells their products which range from vegetables to fresh meat and fish, artisan breads, cheeses, natural juices and various other market type foods although the prices are very high, this is offset by the very high quality and freshness of the products. Well worth a stroll through Chapel Market to get to where it is located at the end section of Chapel Market itself. Good for tourists
Wonderful, fresh veg, much cheaper than the Supermarket
I live nearby and came here very excited, only to find that the normal stalls you find here on weekdays had disappeared, leaving their place on Sundays to a set of highly overpriced vendors, dubbed "organic". Excess prices run from coffee, fruits, bread, and anything else you can imagine I mean, how organic a croissant has to be to be priced at 4 pounds? That´s the mom of all organics!. Come here any other day, there are a great group of people selling goods here at great prices, none of them is found on Sundays.
EDIT Nov 19 - below was written during the summer holidays - once stall holders had got back from holiday the selection was great. Market is as brilliant as ever. Weekly farmers market, 10am-2pm. Good selection of veg, not so much meat but what's there is good. Some nice bakery stalls as well. Nice to go to a farmer's market in London that hasn't been ruined by getting too popular yet, it's still a nice experience to visit.
Overall a decent farmers market. Expect it to be higher in price as they are mostly from independent farmers or producers. I've been coming to this farmers' market for nearly 20yrs being a local. Sadly, my experience was ruined by a recent visit to a baker who seemed more interested in talking to her fellow stall seller than serving customers. She made me feel like I was interrupting her conversation and was very short with me when I was asking what was still in stock. Was even more annoyed when she realised I actually wanted to buy something that was in stock. Then proceeded to play with the payment app for a couple of minutes before taking payment. I should have just taken my money elsewhere sadly she was the only baker that Sunday. Best to avoid this stall in future.
It’s certainly not the nicest farmers market I’ve been to, but it is one of the cheapest ones.
