Despite the poor reviews I’ve seen before coming here myself the other day, it was genuinely a nice and welcoming experience. The lady I spoke to Dee I think her name was was just so compassionate and understanding of my situation while giving me a ton of options, nothing ever felt awkward or forced and she was such an easy person to discuss serious topics with. While I can’t speak for the others that work there, ladies like Dee make me hold out hope for these establishments
Do not trust anyone in this place! They are under constant investigations for being a waste of NHS funds and all the staff should be under investigation and have their licences removed. Some of the most cruel, least helpful people I have dealt with. For the past 7 years they are torturing me, pumping heavy medication, missdiagnosed, discharged without notice, laughed at for suicide attempts that ended with me in the hospital, yelled at in every crisis. Do not trust when they say the line of 'things changed' they haven't, same people, same crueltly, same lack of professionalism. Everyone working here should be ashamed of themselves, absolute scum of the Earth.
Better late than never. For the whole of 2008, I saw a psychotherapist named Merja Jenkins. She diagnosed me with what she called "extremely severe post traumatic stress". She told me that even one of the incidents I had described would have given me post traumatic stress. I still have appointment cards. Yet it would appear that Gorwelion lost my records. Merja was Finnish. Do you even remember her, Gorwelion?
Some of the staff here are nice and accommodating, but I've finally had one too many bad experiences at this place. I have been in moments of crisis, and actively suicidal, and I felt nothing but patronised by the members of the team and then sent home despite being unsafe, with no support or any attempt to even try to help. They did not listen to what I tried to say. They dismissed me, ignored me, aggravating all the very reasons WHY I feel suicidal in the first place, and made me feel so much more upset every time - and this has happened several times. Do forgive the emotionalism, but this has been very hard to deal with: I have been at the end of my rope for years now, and going to Gorwelion has done nothing but reaffirm to me that "getting help" is inaccessible at best, and realistically speaking impossible.
Was personally treated as an individual as a day care patient passing through three times. Staff did their best to provide adequate food for my medical needs, but can do better. A plan for anti-anxiety medication was agreed due to inability to sleep, but was not respected by hospital once admitted elsewhere.
I don't often leave reviews, but I have to warn people about this place. I honestly can't believe the experience I have had here.. I came in a time of crisis and left feeling even worse after being invalidated and judged to a level that I am still in shock over. This was horrible, and I mean truly horrible! Do NOT come here in crisis. Seriously, it is not safe to trust them if you're in a vulnerable state. It will take a while to recover from this experience, and I hope this will prevent someone from enduring anything similar. Please shut this place down or find staff with empathy! This is not to be rude, it is to save lives, honestly!! <3
After spending over twelve hours at A and E I was told by hospital to go to Gorwelion. The member of staff who saw me was visually irritated and angry before I began explaining why I had come. I explained to him I have suffered from severe depression that has been brought on by a traumatic bereavement and other issues of mine. I explained I was a postgraduate and he accused me of lying. I asked him politely as to why and he angrily shouted that because I already have a degree somehow I can't be feeling as low as I made out. I was in a state of shock and he told me that he doubts that I have depression, even though I have been on anti depressants for years and have had a long history of self harm and suicide attempts even as recently as the night before I came there. He went on to tell me to go to my GP I said yes and left. I don't wish to paint everyone who works there with the same brush but I was traumatised by the lack of empathy, compassion and understanding from staff. I will never go back.
Thank you for posting a review for Gorwelion Resource Centre on Yell.com! It's getting better Definitely improving compared to a few years ago. Staff attitude is more patient, compassionate and professional. The building feels more welcoming and a safe haven to turn up make tea and talk to one of the peer mentors. Natalie is wonderful. Thank you Liz, Sue and Nia for your support. I am grateful and to Anne in reception who is welcoming it makes a difference. Thank you too for staying open during Covid and responding to service users needs even though I know you're inundated. I look forward to the move up the hill to a new mental health service which I hope will become a centre of mental health excellence and the model shared across the UK. I run a charity that helps people with mental illness. we spend a lot of time repairing the damage done by gorwelion: people can't get care plans, they are bullied into taking medication, their rights are ignored, staff assume patients have learning disabilities, they see no need to explain - expecting blind compliance. Needless to say, all this breaches the Mental Health Act.
If u want to live and get help Don’t go here I try to get help for my mental health issues, panic attack, anxiety and for clinical depression, I have been to the gp, hospital, mental crisis and I was recommended to go here to get some help they did not take my concern seriously , people there had lost the will to care and actually help, even after I explain my issues, and what I would do if their didn’t get help , and again there shrugged it off , I left there hopeless and utterly distraught by the response I had for them, I guess we want to bring awareness to mental health but not actually help it , now I understand why there are so many bad reviews for this place, It’s like they don’t understand what their job is actually supposed to be & how they can help people, my experience felt like they actually wanted you to kill yourself , & as long if u didn’t do it near There facilities it wasn’t their problem, I recommend if you’re trying to get help talk to a friend ,family member , therapist or even a random stranger and you may be able to get more help and compassion and sympathy in that moment of crisis if u really want to Save yourself , don’t go here , You will leave more broken than when you came
