The food is the REAL DEAL!!!! Fresh, hot, home-cooked food. Customer service is excellent!!!! I know what caribbean food should taste like and this is it 100%!! It cannot get any better than this!
Firstly I love that when we walked in it felt like Christmas, great ambience!! We were greeted with huge smiles and the best hospitality I've experienced in a long time. Both chef and host were so attentive to our needs and wants. The portions of food was amazing we all left so full but most importantly, we my husband, my 9 year old son, my mother in law and I all thought the food and homemade drinks were incredibly exceptional and there is no Caribbean restaurant like this out there and we won't be looking any further. Spot on!! 10 STARS!!!!!!!
I have to admit, that on my many culinary ventures, I have been to a plethora of restaurants. From place to place, I had begun to grow wary of today’s standards in culinary delights and thus becoming disappointed in the overall service and quality of food. But my lord Once I tasted hotspices delicious delights, a fire of burning passion for food had reignited itself within me. It felt as though I was eating my mums home cooking; hotspice’s Caribbean influence is clearly suggested through its food. What I had was oxtail with 2 sides of rice and plantain - my all time favourite combination. Hot spice really delivered. I know how this should taste when cooked at its best and hot spice has far acceded even those expectations. The flavours are indescribably good the same can be said for the sweet potato and custard desert. Oh what a delight! It was my first time at the restaurant and I absolutely cannot wait to go there again and again to indulge in its delights. The food is reasonably priced and is well worth the money with the generous potion size offered. Believe me, I am not trying to over exaggerate and this is the very first restaurant I have ever given 5 stars. I take enjoyment out of visiting many restaurants of all types but I have to admit out of all the restaurants I have tasted from NONE of them compare to hot spice . Thank you for the wonderful service!
I decided to take my mum to this lovely Resturant for her 82nd birthday. I invited some other family members and I will say this. The service was lovely and the food went down a treat. Their home made punch was absolutely delicious although their glasses could have been a little bit larger I would definitely recommend it.
The food could have been better but the chicken was not warm enough, otherwise I would have given the food 4 out of 5 stars. I give an overall rating of 2 out of 5 stars because the service was pathetic and the waitress told me I was hard work after I asked her for ketchup, l just couldn't get it and to top it up no-one cared to find out if I was alright, I needed more food and some napkins but I had to do without because no one cared to find out. I will certainly not be going back to the same kind of treatment., sorry. Tatenda.
Sometimes the biggest drawback of International travel is being a world away from some of your favorite restaurants in far off places once you return home. Wherever that might be. Champagne problems I know, but I slam my head into a wall every night due to the fact I can't drive to Hot Spice for dinner every night of the week thanks to the fact I reside in California. I visited this place last summer with my girlfriend as we made our tiresome walk from the nearby Underground train station to our Hotel and spotted with hungry eyes Hot Spice as we treked up Wembley High Road Street. We made it to the room, put our bags away took showers and made our way back to Hot Spice. We ordered the Jerk Chicken & Ox Tails mains and had the macaroni and cheese and greens as sides. Absolutely flat out delicious. We were brought out plates which were pleasantly arranged but not in a stuffy sense. It seems the focus is to provide diners with a sophisticated but very casual eating experience and the food completely delivers. This place has become the Caribbean restaurant I use as a bellwether with which to judge and measure other Caribbean restaurants against. And in the past year, I have found no equal so far in the world. When in Wembley, GO TO HOT SPICE!
Under new management what a difference. Yes there is one waiter / front off house and food take time; however the food is hot, the authentic drinks like punch and Guinness punch are served. Order fried dumplings and they were freshly cooked. Big improvement; however, alway room to grow for example instead of dumplings as a starter do miniture. Waiter need to be on point product knowledge. Sample the menu so that recommendation flow especially for those who not sample Caribbean food.
We booked a table for 9 including 7 potentially hard-to-please children and a highchair on a quiet weekday evening for my birthday. My little ones were excited to pick out all the flags of the island nations their grandparents hailed from but I was instantly impressed with the North-East African themed wall friezes of Assyrian, Ancient Hebrew and Ethiopian Kushite imagery, carefully chosen to educate and inspire anyone who needs more than just the obligatory Caribbean icons of beaches and Bob Marley. This wasn't just some Caribbean-themed experience. I deliberately opted for a Caribbean restaurant owned and run by African-Caribbeans for its authentic vibe but we wanted the food to do the talking; The food certainly spoke for itself! I often think Caribbean chefs have a tough job to please their Caribbean patrons, whose home cooking has already set the 'benchmark', but as an Afro-Caribbean I can tell you, its presentation, its tastes and textures did NOT disappoint. By that I don't mean the reluctant "hmm...not bad" stance we often adopt, I mean...we were wowed. Even by something normally as mundane or everyday as hard food, our mouths smacked the perfectly boiled, not-too-stodgy dumplings, yam and banana. The slow-cooked oxtail, done to a turn, was exquisitely decadent with perfectly coconut-infused, light and fluffy rice n peas. The juicy, curried King Prawns my son ordered were just the right texture and carefully spiced. Even the little ones were catered for sensitively by the chef, with generous rounds of fried chicken and portions of chips, and patties for the boys. My only criticism of the main courses was that it was all over too soon, not sure if it was the portion size or if we were just all so craven! It's not quite 5 star but it's not 4 star either. If I could give the restaurant a 4.5/5 rating I would. Here's why: the chef clearly puts his all into his dishes but definitely needs to develop his dessert game as the selection wasn't great; there were only a couple of standard cheesecakes and ice-creams on the menu, of which only the latter was available. When they came, though the portions were generous, it was of the budget quality you'd expect at an all-you-can-eat buffet. The little ones didn't seem to notice or care. The desserts were over-priced, but in all, our food, the dessert and a Caribbean fruit punch averaged out at around ten pound a head, which isn't that bad. What the dessert took away from the meal, was more than made up for by the customer service of the staff which was efficient and courteous it seemed like he was running the show by himself for the most part, even operating the steady-stream of conscious reggae cds from a little sound desk. Caribbean-run restaurants aren’t normally noted for their great customer service, but here, when an option wasn't available, which only happened with one soft drink and the dessert the chef communicated helpful alternatives when we needed them and even threw in a bowl of just-right fried plantain with our order. I'm sold; next time I'm in Wembley I'll definitely give them more business and I hope you will too.
I went to this restaurant for a meal. It was wonderful food so good I took my friend and my family even had a private birthday party at last minute the staff even was willing to accommodate us. It was so good my friend from the states and I going there tonight.
Use to frequent this place but the ONE time I had a problem with burnt food. They never offered a refund or another dish to make up for me feeding £50 pounds worth of caribeen food to the dog. Never been back.
