Hortham Farm - Caravan Site & Wood Camping
"We are a family business based on a 200 acre arable farm, just north of Bristol, in the village of Almondsbury, in the rolling countryside of South Gloucestershire. We love the outdoors, as children we camped and we started caravanning with our children 17 years ago. We wanted to share this lovely rural space with others, family groups and couples getting away from it all.We welcome campers looking for a peaceful & comfortable stay in very convenient corner of the South-West."

Positives: •Feels wild •Best toliets/shower I've ever seen on a nearly wild site •Pitches are hidden away in a woods so you feel like you are looking for a true wild spot •Dogs are allowed but only on lead, this benefited us as we have unfortunately had too many random dogs approach us at other places •Fires are allowed as well and wood foraging •Wheelbarrows provided for easy transportation of gear •Car parking Negatives •Yes there is road noise but it's not that bad Overall we loved it, it was peaceful and easy to get to and great value for money. Booking again soon.
Fabulous tent camping spot with large woodland area, open green areas, crop fields, and surrounding countryside. We rented for 3 nights in summer, 3 adults, 5 kids 3-7 years. The tenting location has no direct car access, but there’s a small parking area in site around 200m away, where you’ll leave the car and drop stuff if tenting, they do have caravan and tourer areas separately. There are a couple of pubs within a decent walking distance of 45mins perhaps leisurely. Otherwise, there are superstores, pubs, small local shops a short 5-10 min drive away. This site is close-ish to the motorway, so if it’s real quiet you may hear a background buzz but we didn’t notice it. Finally, fair to mention that there is an electricity pylon on the car park area, where a clear buzzing can be heard when near, and when local usage is high Sat nights the buzz is more intense - this wasn’t a problem, and barely noticed only when passing or intense Fri & sat night buzz in dead if night. If you’ll be having a few beers and you’re not alone, you won’t notice a thing. Very friendly and accommodating owners who past by and said hello. Excellent warm shower facilities, fires and BBQs welcomed! Great for kids
Best campsite for Bristol. Cheap and cheerful. Bit noisy near motorway but they've literally thought of everything possible to make your stay comfortable, welcoming and good value. Very secure too. I feel very welcome here. I'd sum the owners up as making the best use of their spaces.
As you arrive at the site, you stop at the grey unit that looks like they maintain motorhomes Caravans, you help yourself to an envelope that is clearly marked with your name and which field you are to set up on they have 2 different fields, Field View or Wood Viewfrom a little grey locker, you then deposit your money for the stay into the envelope and deposit it back into a secure black small post box. We were located further round the grey unit on Wood View Parked up on hard standing, we chose a middle plot, all plots are overlooking fields of crops of some sort, not sure. Each plot is decided by very tall hedgerows and are very large pitches. Some noise from the M4 but other than that we loved our overnight stay here. Quiet, peaceful and secluded. Elsan toilet point available. So easy to get to from the M5, its an easy stop over if you are planning on a trip to Devon/ Cornwall. Will defo stay here again.
Lovely place to camp. Quirky. Downside for some might be the proximity of the motorway, but it didn't actually bother me, even on an Easter weekend and it was surprisingly peaceful. Good ground, flat open and grassy and also options to pitch in the woods with safe open fire placements. Bird life is lovely. Washrooms were clean, quaintly sweet, however the 'hot shower' that I was so looking forward to, was temperamental and I ended up having to rinse with cold water for some reason. Overall a lovely spot to camp. Communication with Annalisa was good and easy. Great value for money. Thanks very much for a pleasant stay.
Top CL site in our view!..we stayed on Field View.. very private pitches..some slight noise from the motorway..but it didn't bother us.. would definitely recommend for a one or more stop over like we did.
Fitted us in at short notice when we were stuck nearby on a cycling trip late one evening. Annalisa and her son were really kind and helpful. The woods are gorgeous and we had a very peaceful night with a camp fire. Great set up, well-organised and hospitable. Very impressed with the shower and toilets in the big green shed! You can hear the nearby M4 traffic, but that just lulled me to sleep... :-
A well thought out CL site with hardstanding. All utilities have easy access. A pleasant woodland walk on the edge of the farm. This site is ideal for stopover to break long journeys, that said ideal for visiting Bristol and surrounding countryside. Friendly welcome awaits on arrival. Dog-friendliness: Nice woodland walk, lots of wild flowers and full of the sound of birdsong.
Annalisa was very accommodating of my last minute request to camp, and my late arrival. The campsite is about half a mile in from the road, set in a woodland area, with plenty of trees for hammocking. There are suitable areas for fires, and enough space between pitches to allow for you to feel secluded. To top it off, there is a hot shower and bathroom right next to it. Highly recommended staying if needing somewhere nearby.
Me and my friends had the best camping trip here! Can't fault the site; clean toilets with cleaning products to use, well kept grass areas, an outdoor rum shack as well as loads of little fire pits and hidden treasures in the on-site woodland, so much fun! What made the trip even more special was the most lovely couple who own the site Annalisa and Oakley! As our tent broke they offered a spare tent/ any sleeping bags etc we needed. Simply can't recommend this place enough. Me and my friends will definitely be back!!
