My partner and myself called in to buy several items including sheet of perspex. (About 6x2ft). Spent nearly  £70 in all. The perspex needed to be cut down the middle for a job in the house, so I asked a member of staff could they do it as l don't really have the right cutting tools to do the job. 
The lad didn't seem to know how to do it, although the instructions were on the protective sheet on the perspex, a Stanley knife was needed to score a line to do the job, this he has on him. He then spoke to the manager who told me bluntly that they weren't allowed to do it, and that was that. Couldn't believe it, it's not rocket science surely. Truthfully they just couldn't be bothered to do the job. A very poor show as we spend huge amounts of money in Homebase from time to time. Will go elsewhere in the future.

More of a fancy goods shop than a diy store. Often ludicrously expensive.
Staff seem to vary a lot. Some couldn't be more helpful. Others clearly can't be bothered.

Since the stores' takeover the range has increased and there is a lot more for the DIY'er and Gardener. Prices are keen too!

Called into store today for Autumn Lawn feed. Website showed 16 bags available. Couldn't find on shelf. Approached a male member of staff for assistance but he clearly couldn't be arsed to help resolve. Looks like it'll be Berwick Garden Centre from now on!

Always seem to have what I need at a fair price and the staff at the Berwick store are always helpful.
