The most painful time getting to talk to a person, whole system designed to be unhelpful. HMRC very simply give number people can use. Once on the line wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

the worst - quick to fine if you are a day late but otherwise totally useless - virtually impossible to get through to anyone. huge automated voice system then on hold forever. hundreds of times just trying to get money back from overpaid tax. if you ever get through each person you speak to gives a different answer. making it impossible to get what is owed. thieves.

I rang up multiple times on many different days, got no responce. No possible way of getting in the building to actually talk to someone and there has been no reply to my letters after a month after sending them.
