A Taste of Nepal in a Charming Setting Our evening at The Himalayan Spice in Plymouth was a delightful culinary adventure from start to finish. Upon entering, we were greeted by a modern reception and a well-stocked bar, setting the stage for a memorable dining experience. Food: The meal commenced with tantalizing starters of Onion Bhaji and Garlic Mushroom served on Roti, setting the tone for what was to come. The traditional Nepalese main courses, including Gurkhaki Lamb Shank and Murgha Moghlai, were flavorful and expertly prepared by chefs Kishor and Krishna. The side dish of Sag Paneer and freshly baked Nan and Paratha complemented the mains perfectly. Despite our full stomachs, we couldn't resist sampling some Nepalese beer, rounding off the meal beautifully. Service: The gentle and friendly waiting staff provided impeccable service throughout our visit, ensuring our needs were met with warmth and professionalism. Ambiance: The downstairs dining area exuded a cozy charm, with rustic interiors reminiscent of traditional English coastal trading styles. While the space was intimate, we learned that a larger dining area is upstairs, offering more seating options. Location: Nestled next to the famous and historic Elizabethan house, the restaurant's location adds to its allure, providing a glimpse into Plymouth's rich heritage. Overall Impression: Our experience at The Himalayan Spice was nothing short of exceptional. Every aspect of our visit surpassed expectations, from the delectable Nepalese cuisine to the welcoming ambiance and attentive service. We felt thoroughly satisfied and eager to return for another culinary journey through Nepal.
The food was absolute perfection, the Himalayan Chicken was spot on with every flavour possible and was so tender. The waiters were very friendly and accommodated for all of our needs. Would definitely love to come and eat again!Food: 5/5
Some of the dishes were quite salty like Mo Mo, but the taste was still very good. Chef's special curry was especially good with many different kind of proteins chicken, lamb, prawn, and egg.Food: 4/5
The food was very nice, quick service too.
Review for veggies- First of all, this is so far the best Indian food I’ve had since moving to Plymouth last year. Everything we had was incredibly tasty and the prices are reasonable too. The food came out quickly and it was quite busy, especially for a Wednesday evening which is a good sign! The reason why I’ve not rated it 5* is because I felt like there could’ve been some more interesting veggie main meals, like offering paneer instead of meat for their Himalayan specials. This is just an issue I’ve generally found in this part of the country and maybe there’s just not the same market down here for veggie food. But overall, the food was really good and we won’t go anywhere else for a curry after eating here. Looking forward to coming back!
Right on the barbican in a very historic little street. I have been in a party at the weekend and had what one of my friends said was the best curry they'd had with amazing portions, service and ambiance, the food was really delicious. However, I have been a couple of times on a Monday and am sure there is a different chef in the kitchen on quieter days as both times the food was just OK. Service was also affected with only one or two staff working leading to lengthy waits and things like poppadoms arriving AFTER the starters! It really seems they keep the 'big guns' for the busy nights which is kind of understandable but maybe they could train the others to produce the same amazing results. When its good it's really good!
Best curry house in Plymouth, by a mile. Had an excellent meal at the Himalayan with friendly and attentive staff and exceptional food. Been to all the main curry restaurants in Plymouth and this absolutely comes out on top.Food: 5/5
Booked a table for 8pm and got told to come back at 9:45. Went back and got stuck out the back. Ordered 6 pints and the server dropped 2 all over us and offered no apology. We then proceeded to wait 50 minutes for a starter that I wouldn’t even give to my dog. Absolutely tasteless. Then came the mains. And my god where do I start. Every curry tasted the same. And we’re all absolutely freezing. We then refused to pay full price and we ate nothing to then be held hostage. We offered to pay for what we had ate. But they wouldn’t accept. I then went outside eventually for a vape. To then be chased down the street of the owners son. Worst curry I’ve ever had. And worst people I’ve ever met
Excellent atmosphere and attentive staff. Very different type of curries etc as its Nepali based, so it was good to try this for a change. Lovely Nepali beer which we hadn't tasted before. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and will visit again.
One of the best curry houses going! Fantastic tasting food, superb service and a good price as well. This is my go to place when in Plymouth!Food: 5/5
